JOB TITLE:
Assistant Professor Mathematics Education Outreach
JOB PURPOSE:
The University of Wyomings College of Education and the Science and Mathematics Teaching Center (SMTC) invite applications from dynamic qualified candidates with a strong background in and commitment to K-12 mathematics education and outreach. The role emphasizes collaboration with rural Wyoming schools and leading mathematics-focused professional development for in-service K12 teachers across the addition the successful candidate will work with SMTC colleagues to support graduate programs through teaching and advising. They will also be expected to engage in academic research and scholarship aligned with the SMTCs mission and vision.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The primary responsibility of this position is to lead teacher professional development and outreach initiatives in K12 mathematics education across Wyoming. This includes collaborating with SMTC faculty and staff to provide curriculum consultation as well as planning delivering assessing and reporting on professional development efforts for the K12 community.
In addition to outreach SMTC faculty contribute to the centers graduate programs through teaching and advising. The successful candidate will teach three courses per academic yearone each in fall spring and during the SMTCs summer graduate session in June. All University of Wyoming faculty are expected to demonstrate excellence in teaching and a commitment to innovative evidence-based instructional practices that support student learning. Advising responsibilities include serving on graduate committees responding to student inquiries and participating in the ongoing development assessment and refinement of graduate programs.
Finally the candidate will be expected to maintain an active research agenda that includes securing external funding publishing scholarship aligned with the SMTCs integrated focus on teaching and outreach and contributing to the Universitys overall research productivity in support of its R1 mission.
REMOTE WORK ELIGIBILITY:
This position provides vital support to campus customers and requires the successful candidate be available to work on campus.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- An earned Ph.D./Ed.D. in Mathematics Education or a closely related field (or degree conferral by time of appointment
- A commitment to mathematics education
- A minimum of three years teaching experience in K-12 schools higher education or informal settings
- Evidence of an emergent line of empirical research in mathematics education
- Demonstration of (or clear potential for) excellence in outreach and fieldwork related to the work of the Science and Mathematics Teaching Center.
- Valid drivers license with a motor vehicle record (MVR) that is compliant with theUniversity Vehicle Use Policy.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Demonstrated experience engaging external constituents in current research-based state of the art teacher professional development;
- Experience or potential for collaborating with SMTC colleagues stakeholders in school districts and at the state level;
- Five (5) years of K-12 teaching experience;
- Successful experience and interest in teaching and delivering professional development across multiple instructional modalities.
