Summary of Job Duties:

The Medical Assistant (MA) in the Psychiatric Research Institute (PRI) Interventional Psychiatry Procedural Area provides direct patient care to assigned patients. The MA works under the direct supervision of the clinic nurse and Department Director.


Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma GED or formal education equivalent
  • Current BLS
  • Completion of a Medical Assistant training program
  • Excellent communication skills basic computer skills strong work ethic and accountability


Additional Information:

Job Requirements:

  • The MA prepares treatment rooms for consultation visits and examinations.
  • The MA assists with medical procedures and examinations.
  • The MA conducts patient interviews measures vital signs (i.e. pulse rate temperature blood pressure weight and height) and phlebotomy.
  • The MA audits charts and researches & transcribes physicians orders/accession orders for clinical laboratory or appropriate processing center.
  • The MA performs administrative tasks by charting registering and scheduling patients for appointments procedures etc. using the various registration and scheduling systems.
  • The MA coordinates and organizes referrals to the PRI Procedure area.
  • The MA performs screenings for calls for SAINT TMS.
  • The MA completes screening packets and prior authorizations as required by insurance.
  • Performs other duties as needed.
  • Employee must successfully complete a UAMS-sponsored conflict management training to identify prevent and mitigate disruptive behaviors using methods such as non-escalation de-escalation personal protection from physical assaults and physical alternatives within six months of hire.
