The University of Miami/UHealth Office of Dean MSOM has an exciting opportunity for a Full Time Director Finance - School/College/Hospital to work at the UHealth medical campus in Miami FL.
CORE JOB SUMMARY
The Director Finance - School/College/Hospital directs and oversees all finance activities for the assigned school/college/hospital such as budget preparation review and analysis of department financial performance reports and preparation and review of productivity benchmarks. The incumbent develops and implements financial strategies that will ensure compliance within the budget parameters set for applicable business unit(s). This role analyzes data to allocate resources determines potential risks prepares reports for executives and identifies solutions to financial issues within the assigned school/college/hospital.

Assists in preparation of miscellaneous business plans relating to assigned facility operations.
Participates in strategic long-range and tactical planning.
Performs economic evaluation of new programs and equipment.
Completes trend analyses and volume projections.
Develops strategic pricing and sensitivity analyses.
Initiates appropriate controls to ensure compliance with operating and capital budgets.
Works with other departments staff and external entities to undertake the budget preparation process effectively.
Monitors and summarizes the status of all financial targets.
Trains mentors and supervises department staff to ensure compliance with applicable regulations.
Ensures internal control oversight and compliance with laws and regulations safeguarding of assets compliance with University policies and procedures reliability of internal and external reporting and efficiency and effectiveness of operations.
Creates an effective control environment conducts risk assessment implements and monitors controls.
Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures. Ensures employees are trained on controls within the function and on University policy and procedures.

Department Specific Functions
The Director of Finance for the Miller School of Medicine Deans Office provides strategic leadership analysis and oversight of financial operations supporting the Deans Office Medical Education and affiliated departments centers and institutes. This role ensures robust fiscal planning compliance and process excellence in alignment with the institutions mission and goals. The incumbent of this position will report to the AVP for Administration MSOM.
Responsibilities:
- Financial Analysis and Strategic Reporting
- Conduct detailed analyses of revenue streams expenditure trends and resource utilization across the Deans Office portfolio.
- Prepare and present monthly quarterly and annual financial reports to senior leadership highlighting key financial drivers risks and opportunities.
- Develop financial models to inform strategic decision-making including scenario planning and forecasting.
- Fiscal Planning
- Lead the development of the annual Deans Office operating budget coordinating inputs from administrative units and departments.
- Develop multi-year fiscal plans aligned with institutional strategic priorities including projections for growth initiatives new academic programs and infrastructure investments.
- Monitor budget performance and recommend adjustments to optimize resource allocation.
- Collaborate with central finance to ensure compliance with institutional policies and reporting requirements.
- Financial Validations for Requests Received for Deans Approval
- Review and validate funding requests including new position justifications research support allocations capital purchases and other commitments.
- Confirm availability of funds and alignment with strategic priorities prior to Deans signature or commitment.
- Account Reconciliations
- Oversee reconciliation of all Deans Office accounts including operating endowment gift and other designated funds.
- Ensure timely resolution of discrepancies and adherence to internal controls and audit standards.
- Financial Planning for Departmental Business Plans
- Advise department leaders on proforma development funding strategies and sustainability models for new or expanding programs.
- Evaluate business plans for alignment with institutional goals and fiscal viability.
- Prepare summary analyses and recommendations for executive leadership review.
- Executive-Level Recruitment Commitment Plans
- Develop financial packages and commitments for senior faculty and leadership recruitment including start-up funding lab renovations salary guarantees and transitional support.
- Coordinate tracking and management of all commitments to ensure accurate forecasting and timely fulfillment.
- Support to the Department of Medical Education:
- Oversee the development monitoring and reporting of the Medical Education budget including multi-year projections quarterly forecasts and variance analysis.
- Manage scholarship and tuition accounting ensuring accurate processing of awards disbursements and reconciliation to student accounts.
- Monitor program-specific restricted and unrestricted funds ensuring compliance with donor grant and institutional guidelines.
- Oversee teaching allocations across basic sciences and clinical departments in collaboration with the Medical Education central team.
- Develop and maintain financial reporting dashboards for Medical Education leadership providing insights into program performance expenditures and funding trends.
- Lead the preparation of annual tuition and fee proposals collaborating with academic leadership and central finance.
- Support Medical Education leadership with financial modeling for new programs curriculum changes or enrollment initiatives including scenario planning and cost analysis.
- Lead account reconciliations and ensure timely resolution of discrepancies for all Medical Education accounts.
- Oversee compliance with internal controls fiscal policies and external regulatory requirements relevant to Medical Education finance operations.
- Serve as the primary finance liaison to the Department of Medical Education (DoME) Undergraduate Medical Education (UME) Graduate Medical Education (GME) Continuing Medical Education (CME) and the Office of Graduate Studies (OGS); facilitating communication and issue resolution.
- Provide training guidance and support to Medical Education staff on financial policies procedures and tools.
- Lead or participate in process improvement projects to enhance efficiency accuracy and transparency in Medical Education financial operations.
- Support to Other Departments and Centers
- Provide interim financial management and operational support during staffing gaps or transitions.
- Deliver oversight mentorship and training to department-centric finance staff to build capacity and ensure adherence to standards.
- Serve as a financial liaison for departments centers and institutes during annual budget development and fiscal planning cycles.
- Lead or support process improvement initiatives to strengthen financial processes enhance internal controls and promote efficiency.
