Job Description

We are looking for an Associate who is working within the Finance Valuation Risk Controlling Team. The team is mandated to perform an independent valuation assessment on the diverse range of financial products. This process involves the certification of models and their valuation methodologies testing for adherence to such methodologies evaluating internal valuation marks against external benchmarks identification and resolution of valuation discrepancies and communicating a valuation assessment to senior management. The team is also involved in the continuous enhancements of the valuation control infrastructure with a view towards global and cross-product standardization.

What will you be doing

  • Be part of the Continental Europe and Credit Complex Valuation Control Teams covering Corporate EM and Securitized Credit.
  • Work with a wide-range of financial products
  • Be responsible for enhancing the valuation control framework for Continental Europe
  • Prepare summaries on review results for senior finance executives and the trading desks
  • Review valuation and risk models work closely with model developers
  • Be responsible for enhancing and streamlining existing working processes
  • Understand global financial markets following up market movements and understanding impact on the business
  • Be involved in project work as required on new systems and functionality enhancements

What were looking for:

  • Strong and completed academics with preference for a quantitative discipline such as financial engineering mathematics physics engineering or other technical field
  • Deep knowledge of main financial products their market context and associated risks
  • Good understanding of IT and systems
  • Ability to work effectively as a member of a team or independently
  • Fluency in English

  • Clear structured communication and interpersonal skills
  • Willingness to adapt to new challenges in a dynamic environment with shifting priorities
  • Ability to challenge the valuation methodologies proposed by the trading desk and model developers
  • Ability to develop strong internal client relationships

Where will you be working

Morgan Stanley Valuation Control provide an independent valuation opinion across the entire spectrum of financial instruments within the firms sales and trading inventory and proprietary investment portfolio ranging from vanilla products to the most complex structured and derivative transactions. The team leverages its diverse quantitative skill set and intimate product expertise to act as a guardian and approver of valuation methodology. The groups key clients are senior trading management and senior Finance management.
