Job Description
- This entry-level role involves studying the fundamental principles of plant biology and the impact of environmental conditions on plant growth.
- The position requires familiarity with standard concepts practices and procedures within the field and includes a variety of
- tasks performed under general supervision.
- Cultivate plants in controlled environment settings.
- Support scientific research on maize pollen speed breeding and seed production.
- Assist with plant breeding and nursery optimization activities including prototype development and testing.
- Collect field and greenhouse samples conduct viability assays perform pollinations and maintain accurate records.
- Operate greenhouse environmental control systems and perform routine maintenance (e.g. cleaning floors organizing supplies).
- Participate in team and project meetings and communicate updates changes or issues promptly and clearly.
- Bachelors degree in a relevant field and 1 3 years of related experience.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs. and perform repetitive movements such as bending.
- Willingness to travel to field sites located 4 6 hours from Chesterfield with approximately three overnight trips (3 4 days each) during the summer (June August).
- Strong interest in greenhouse operations plant propagation and irrigation.
- High attention to detail and effective task prioritization.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a multi-project team environment.
- Proficiency in basic math and Microsoft Office applications (Excel Outlook Word PowerPoint).
