Overview:
The Art Department Lab Assistant Student Employee is responsible for monitoring the Ceramics 2D/3D Design and Drawing/Painting studios during open studio times. Student employees are expected to help maintain a safe organized and productive studio. Duties include mixing clay mixing glazes loading and unloading gas and electric kilns answering phones cleaning/organizing setting up for art shows assist with special projects (building) and other job related duties.
Campus Location: Des Plaines
Length of Employment: Prefer someone who can work multiple semesters.

Hours Available: Monday- Thursday: 12:00 pm- 3:00 pm. Friday: 2:00 pm- 6:00 pm.
Schedule Flexibility: Usually determined around class schedule (flexible)
Tasks Duties and Responsibilities (TDRs) and Learning Outcomes:
- Monitor Studio and make sure safe practices are being followed (LD)
- Mix clay glazes and other materials for classes (CD)
- Learn to load/unload and fire gas and electric kilns (CD CT)
- Serve as a resource person to students during open studio times (CM LD)
- Answer phones (CM TC)
- Work with Art Department Staff collecting/setting up artwork for exhibitions (TW)
- Provide customer service and maintain an organized/clean studio (PF)
Candidate Qualifications (Knowledge Skills and Other Abilities or KSOAs)
- Must be enrolled at Oakton College in at least 6 credit hours during the fall and spring semesters. Employed over the summer is allowed for students taking at least 1 credit class during the summer or students continuing registration into the following fall semester.
- Must have an overall GPA of 2.0 or higher and be in good standing at Oakton College.
- Eligible to work in the United States.
- Some experience taking art classes (ceramics preferred)
- Experience with tools
- Ability to lift up to 50lbs
