Job Description

Commercial Lines Underwriter
Location: Melville NY (Hybrid)
Job Type: Full-Time


Our client a well-established property and casualty insurance provider is seeking a Commercial Lines Underwriter to join their team. This is a full-time hybrid position requiring a mix of remote and in-office work. The ideal candidate will play a key role in evaluating commercial policies managing risk and ensuring profitable growth for the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Review and assess new and renewal commercial insurance applications ensuring they align with company underwriting policies and risk appetite.
  • Collaborate with agency partners to drive strong business relationships and profitable underwriting decisions.
  • Work closely with internal teams including underwriting assistants and regional managers to maintain corporate service standards.
  • Analyze risk exposure coverage needs and loss history to make informed underwriting decisions.
  • Monitor market trends and regulatory updates to stay ahead in the commercial insurance space.
  • Support regional production goals and contribute to maintaining target loss ratios.
Qualifications & Experience:
  • Bachelors degree or equivalent professional experience.
  • 5 years of experience in commercial lines underwriting.
  • Strong knowledge of underwriting principles risk assessment and industry regulations.
  • Experience working with agency partners and building long-term business relationships.
  • Professional insurance designations (e.g. CPCU) are a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and internal insurance software systems.
  • Excellent analytical communication and organizational skills.
