Job Description

Position Summary

The University of Denver Sturm College of Law seeks applications from full-time members of its faculty to serve as the inaugural Director of the Native American Rights Project which focuses on advancing research teaching and external engagement in the area of Native American rights.

The position is contemplated as a three-year appointment commencing in August 2025.

Essential Functions

The Director will undertake the following principal responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the Native American Rights Project in a manner designed to enhance its visibility stature and impact;
  • Support an appropriate slate of programmatic activities including lectures workshops and other events;
  • Provide recommendations regarding curricular enhancements in the area of Native American rights;
  • Advise students on professional opportunities in the field of tribal law federal Indian law and Native American rights;
  • Collaborate with the Dean to develop and lead an external advisory board composed of influential experts in the field; and
  • Work closely with the Dean and the law schools Executive Director of Development to secure additional resources for the Project from individuals and organizations.

Required Qualifications

  • Full-time faculty member at the Sturm College of Law
  • J.D. and/or Ph.D. degrees (or their equivalents)
  • Expertise in the field of Native American rights

Working Environment

  • Standard office environment.
  • Unexpected interruptions occur often and stress level is moderate to high.
  • Noise level is quiet to moderate.

Physical Activities

  • Ability to work in front of a computer for extended periods of time.
  • Occasionally required to move about the office/campus.

Work Schedule
Monday - Friday 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Salary Grade Number:
The salary grade for the position is UC.

Salary Range:
The salary rate for this position is $12500.

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate departmental budget availability internal salary equity considerations and available market information but not based on a candidates sex or any other protected status.
