Job Description

Reporting to the Dean of the Ritchie School of Engineering and Computer Science the Department Co-Chair will be part of the team that works with the Chair of the Department and Dean to advance school-level objectives and ensure efficient departmental administration. The Co-Chair contributions will vary throughout the academic cycle and will assist the Chair with functions that encompass oversight of department staff faculty and resources; upholding the quality of the educational program; and maintaining high standards of teaching and scholarly or creative activities. This includes assisting the Chair with taking care of necessary administrative details and processes (e.g. planning the instructional program preparing and administering the budget ongoing collaboration and communication with RSECS and DU administrators and staff) and supporting strategic initiatives. The Co-Chair serves as an advocate and supporter of the individual department school or program and as a part of RSECS leadership with expectations for considering and serving the needs of all RSECS students staff and faculty. The Department Co-Chair is responsible for knowing following and enforcing all institutional policies as well as being a positive influence on the culture of their program and the university.

Position Summary

This is a part-time administrative appointment during which the faculty member will retain responsibilities for teaching and scholarship/creative work and continue to accrue time towards sabbatical. The term for this position is one year with term retention renewal and selection processes being governed by departmental bylaws and approval of the Dean. The term will start on August 1 2025 and end on June 30 2026. Only faculty members within the Computer Science department are eligible and further eligibility and selection criteria are governed by departmental bylaws.

Essential Functions

Administrative Details and Processes

  • Assist with planning the instructional program
  • Assist with preparing and administering the budget
  • Assist with facilitating ongoing collaboration and communication with division and DU administrators and staff

Leadership

  • Supporting academic and strategic planning.
  • Assist in advocating for departmental needs.
  • Balancing the needs of the department with those of the School students staff and faculty.
  • Knowing following and enforcing all institutional policies as well as being a positive influence on the culture of the department and the university.

  • Ability to work collaboratively and build strong relationships with the Chair peers divisions and senior leadership.
  • Ability to collaborate and be comfortable dealing with ambiguity.
  • Ability to create effective partnerships.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects have attention to detail and work effectively in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Ability to think strategically and creatively.
  • Ability to handle time sensitive/confidential information appropriately.

Required Qualifications

  • Current faculty member in good standing in Computer Science.

Working Environment

  • Standard office environment.
  • Unexpected interruptions occur often and stress level is moderate to high.
  • Noise level is quiet to moderate.

Physical Activities

  • Ability to work in front of a computer for extended periods of time.
  • Occasionally required to move about the office/campus.

Work Schedule

While the Universitys administrative offices are open Monday Friday 8:00 am 4:30 pm faculty schedules vary from term to term and are based on courses taught service commitments and research agendas. The Universitys academic calendars are posted on theregistrars website(the law school is on a semester system and has a differentacademic calendar).

Salary Grade Number

The salary grade for the position is UC.

Compensation

The annual salary for this position is $2200.

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate departmental budget availability internal salary equity considerations and available market information but not based on a candidates sex or any other protected status.
