You will be updated with latest job alerts via emailComputer Data & Information Sciences (CDIS) has a centralized marketing and communications team that supports school-wide efforts as well as the work of our three academic departments. We are seeking a creative and collaborative Marketing & Communication Specialist to support school-level communications. This position reports to the Director of Advancement and plays a vital role in promoting the CDIS brand amplifying department achievements and driving awareness of our programs people and priorities.
The Marketing & Communication Specialist will be responsible for developing and executing strategies that align with the schools goals and objectives. This includes creating engaging content that highlights department accomplishments promotes programs and increases visibility through partnerships across campus. Regular duties include:
Content Development & Storytelling:
Develop compelling stories and other original content that engages key audiences including students alumni media campus partners and peer institutions.
Manage all aspects of story creation including background research interviews writing editing and approvals.
Digital and Social Media:
Write and edit compelling copy for websites email newsletters and social media.
Manage CDISs social media platforms and website ensuring accuracy consistency and alignment with brand and strategic goals.
Troubleshoot and update content as needed.
Marketing Execution and Project Management:
Support and execute integrated marketing campaign and tactical communication plans.
Contribute to efforts such as prospective student outreach advancement communications corporate relations branded collateral and event promotions.
Media pitching
Assist with media outreach pitching stories to external outlets to elevate the schools visibility
Were looking for a solutions-oriented communicator who thrives in a fast-paced team-oriented environment. Creativity attention to detail and strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively with many stakeholders is essential. This role will have regular contact with directors faculty staff and students. Candidates should have excellent written communication skills including the ability to write articles on a specific topic in addition to short-form copywriting. The successful candidate will also stay up to date on marketing and communication trends best practices and adhere to UWMadisons editorial style guide.
This position allows for some remote work flexibility; however the majority of work is expected to be conducted in person. This position is full-time 100%.

The School of Computer Data & Information Sciences (CDIS) at the University of WisconsinMadison is a first-of-its-kind academic collaboration uniting the departments of Computer Sciences Statistics and the Information School. Starting salary will be based on experience and qualifications. Well-qualified applicants can anticipate earning between $48107 - $89479 with final salary based on experience and qualifications.
Bachelors degree in marketing communications public relations or related field
Minimum of 2 years of experience in marketing and communications
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to message a variety of audiences
Demonstrated experience adhering to editorial style guide and ability to review content for accuracy style and tone
Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
Experience developing and executing marketing and communication plans
Experience with social media management and digital marketing
Experience in a higher education or nonprofit environment
Familiarity with graphic design and video production tools
Experience in media relations or public relations
Interest or knowledge of computing data science information science or related STEM fields
