Job Description

POSITION OVERVIEW: The Research and Development (R&D) Technologist role will play a crucial role in developing new food products and improving existing formulas to enhance quality optimize cost and drive consumer satisfaction. If you have a flair for creativity a keen eye for detail and a love for food science we want you on our team to drive our mission of having fun while delivering safe and delicious chocolate products to our customers at an extraordinary value.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Develop and improve food product formulations and processes in line with assignments assigned by the manager meeting company objectives and market trends.
  • Conduct experiments and produce benchtop sample products utilizing a range of raw materials and food processing technologies.
  • Ensure compliance with government regulations industry standards food safety requirements and maintain allergen awareness throughout all stages of product/process development and commercialization of food products.
  • Work closely with the quality team to analyze food content which may include physical chemical microbial quality and product stability to ensure they consistently exceed consumer needs and shelf-life expectations.
  • Initiate and manage ongoing product shelf-life study activities.
  • Document current status during all phases and stages of research and product development processes maintaining accurate complete and thorough records remaining prepared to present findings to management.
  • Initiate conduct and maintain programs for ongoing product sensory evaluation of new as well as existing products.
  • Collaborate with the quality team to uphold quality and food safety standards throughout all stages of new product development and product commercialization.
  • Work closely with the marketing and tech services leadership teams to understand and respond to customer preferences market demands and industry trends.
  • Work closely with the operations and engineering teams to assist in scaling-up successful product prototypes to full commercial production levels keeping careful documentation of product and process targets key metrics and being prepared to actively and promptly provide feedback to the team on any emerging challenges or issues.
  • Work closely with the purchasing team to explore and maintain relationships with existing as well as emerging vendors.
  • Maintain ongoing awareness of industry and regulatory developments understand their impacts willing and able to make suggestions on product as well as process implications.
  • Work with the quality team to thoughtfully consider and develop methods practices and processes for product testing as appropriate to support new product or process change initiatives.
  • Throughout the performance of all tasks always maintain a constant awareness of personal safety as well as a high level of care for the safety of all team members working in the area.
  • Complete and assist with all other duties as assigned by the manager.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelors degree in food science
  • Preferred 2-5 years of experience in food product development formulations or related roles within the food manufacturing industry.
  • Strong understanding of food chemistry microbiology and processing technologies.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office and industry-specific software.
  • Outstanding communication skills both verbal and written. Ability and willingness to consistently follow processes and maintain excellent documentation of product formulation process and project status. Willing and able to write revise critique and follow processes and procedures.
  • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Familiarity with Genesis Foods or similar product formulation and labeling management software systems- Preferred.
COMPENSATION
  • Base Salary: $65000-$70000 per year
  • Annual Bonus: 5% of base salary based on company and individual performance
