Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Animal Trainer to join our team in the USA. The ideal candidate will be responsible for training animals for obedience performance security assistance or behavioral improvement. As an Animal Trainer you will work with pet owners organizations or entertainment companies to develop training plans that promote positive behavior ensure safety and enhance the animals skills and well-being.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and implement customized training programs for a variety of animals including dogs horses or exotic animals.
Use positive reinforcement and humane training techniques to modify behavior and teach new skills.
Observe animal behavior and evaluate temperament to create effective training plans.
Train animals for specific roles such as service animals therapy animals security animals or performance animals.
Educate owners or handlers on maintaining and reinforcing training at home or in the workplace.
Address problem behaviors through behavioral modification plans and follow-up sessions.
Maintain detailed records of training progress behavior assessments and client interactions.
Ensure the health safety and welfare of all animals during training sessions.
Stay updated with the latest animal behavior research and training techniques.
May assist in public demonstrations shows or educational events as needed.
Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent; certification in animal training animal behavior or related field is a plus.
Proven experience working as an Animal Trainer with domestic or exotic animals.
Strong understanding of animal behavior body language and psychology.
Excellent handling skills and patience working with animals of different temperaments.
Strong communication skills to instruct owners or handlers effectively.
Physical stamina and ability to work outdoors or in various environments.
Flexibility to work evenings weekends or holidays as needed.
Preferred Skills:
Certification from a recognized training organization (e.g. CPDT-KA IAABC or similar).
Experience with specialized training such as service dog training scent detection or performance training.
Knowledge of animal health and basic first aid.
Ability to work independently and adapt training techniques to individual animal needs.
