Job Description
- The role embraces a broad spectrum of responsibilities including but not limited to the following:
- Appraise acquire and catalogue new materials (physical and digital).
- Preserve documents photographs maps audio-visual materials and digital files.
- Develop and maintain classification systems for efficient retrieval. Maintain security and confidentiality of sensitive or restricted materials. Work with SDS to ensure long-term accessibility through the site
- Create user guides once the site goes live for public access.
- To answer enquiries relating to the schools history and archives and provide guidance on their interpretation and use.
- Catalogue repackage and re-box the existing archive collection
- Continue cataloguing the remaining materials and regular new additions
- To recruit some Kings archiving volunteers (former students/staff) to support longer term
Essential skills of the successful candidate:
- Experience of managing a computer-based archive system is highly desirable
- Excellent administrative and organisational skills
- Able to work well independently under own initiative as well as part of a team
- Excellent and effective communication skills verbally and in writing
- A collaborative worker who can forge good working relationships with others
- A problem solver who can make appropriate decisions
- Have strong attention to detail and accuracy Able to anticipate and respond to changing needs and digital media
- A logical approach to the work of identification and classification
- Demonstrable project management skills
- Adaptable and with a high degree of flexibility
Essential knowledge
- Fully conversant with software-based archival systems and digitisation of records
- Sound working knowledge of IT packages including Microsoft
- Knowledge of the application of applying digital technology to archival practice including managing a catalogue and digital preservation

- A genuine interest in history and in preserving records for posterity
- The desire to undertake continuous professional development
- Positive enthusiastic and flexible with a can do attitude
