At our GKN Filton site we specialise in the design and manufacture of large complex structural wing assemblies detailed metallic components and wing systems for a combination of both civil and military aircraft.
We are seeking 2 qualified level 2 PFD Operators to undertake non-destructive testing & penetrant processing inspection of components to identify surface defects.
The successful individuals will be required to work on both manual and automated penetrant testing lines as part of a team of up to 12 PFD Operators within our IMF facility and need to be flexible as the role will involve working shifts.
Day shifts (07:00am - 18:45pm) 25% Shift Allowance
3 on 2 off 2 on 3 off
Night shifts (19:00pm - 07:00am) 38% shift allowance
3 on 4 off 4 on 3 off
How Youll Contribute
- Accountable for recording value stream tasks within the site Risk Assessment Management tool with the risks being accurately recorded and controls put in place to help reduce the risk
- Ensure parts are produced on a right first time basis
- Ensure that any calibrated equipment used is within date
- Responsible for the timely clearance of work phases using the SAP system
- Responsible for highlighting any non-conformance to the Process Team Leader
- Adhering to the requirements of the GKNAF Quality Procedures
- Accountable for Health & Safety requirements under Section 7 of the HASAWA 1974
- To hold first party inspection approval (M02 status is subject to obtaining A stamp approval)
- Performing the tasks learning understanding and working to the governing specifications
- Ensure compliance with all risk assessments and company Environment Health & Safety Procedures relevant to all work activities. Report all incidents accidents and near misses as per the companys procedure and implementation of identified corrective actions. Maintain good standards of housekeeping in designated work area(s)
- Champion Export Control compliance activities ensuring adherence to the site Technology Control Plan (TCP) guaranteeing compliance with Export Control Regulations controls training and systems
What Youll Bring

Essential:
- Penetrant testing for EN 4179 Level 2 as a minimum
- Comfortable working as part of a team toward a common objective
Desirable:
- Previous manufacturing experience in a factory environment
- knowledge of Lean manufacturing principles and techniques to support GKNAF continuous improvement initiatives
- A background in mechanical/aerospace industry
