Job Description
The Philosophy Department in the College of Arts & Sciences at Syracuse University is seeking a part-time instructor of Philosophy to teach a section of PHI 311 The Rationalists a 3-credit course during Fall 2025 semester. This course is available in fall 2025 only due to a faculty scheduling conflict and is offered as a supplemental assignment one time only. The hiring rate of pay for the successful candidate will be determined based on their per-credit-rate-history within the hiring department. All positions and offers are subject to funding availability and enrollment. Course description: Theories of mind matter God and freedom put forth by rationalist philosophers such as Descartes Spinoza Malebranche and Leibniz. Responsibilities
The duties associated with the teaching assignment include: Developing and/or updating a class syllabus. Preparation of lectures. Maintaining regular contact with students. Presenting instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the course. Submitting completed final grades according to University regulations. Grading student assignments and exams in a timely manner. Providing department forms for student evaluations. Building a positive rapport with students and other faculty.
Qualifications
ABD or PhD in Philosophy.
