Description

The Division of Pulmonary Critical Care and Sleep Medicine at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai is seeking a Data Manager. The division conducts multidisciplinary clinical and translational research with state-of-the art equipment and cutting-edge technology for diseases and disorders across the lifespan.

A fully-funded Data Manager position is available with Dr. Alison Lee at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in NYC. Funding is guaranteed for 2 years with potential for further support. Dr. Lees research leverages an NIH-funded ongoing pregnancy cohort study in Kintampo Ghana (The Ghana Randomized Air Pollution and Health Study GRAPHS) investigating the impact of perinatal exposures (both chemical and non-chemical) on maternal-child health broadly and the programming of chronic disease risk. Dr. Lees community-engaged and solutions-oriented research focuses on understanding how exposure to air pollution humid-heat and precipitation/drought over pregnancy and early childhood program future health. Research studies consider a range of outcomes including growth lung health and cardiovascular health in both mothers and children. Mechanisms examined include a specific focus on epigenetic mechanisms including DNA methylation non-coding microRNAs and long noncoding RNAs and extracellular vesicle communications. Metabolomics and microbiome are also of interest.

The successful Data Manager will oversee the quality and timeliness of all data management activities for the studies and will be responsible for data collection and maintenance documents questionnaires data cleaning query tracking compilation and maintenance of manuals. The Data Manager will develop and monitor metrics ensure appropriate training for the staff and may have limited supervisory responsibility. The Data manager may also lead epidemiological analyses of environmental exposures and health.



Responsibilities
  • Create update maintain and validate data for the provision of computerized reports. Manage data through review computerization cleaning and auditing for compliance with standard operating procedures and regulatory agency guidelines.
  • Review analyze and validate data to ensure consistency integrity and accuracy based on specific guidelines.
  • Design and implement bioinformatics tools and processes in order to analyze large scale datasets.
  • Develop projects and work independently on a variety of bioinformatics analysis projects.
  • May give presentations both inside and outside of the institution.
  • Develop study questionnaires. Analyze responses; develop plans to provide feedback.
  • Assist in standardizing data management procedures such as documentation for research group operating procedures.
  • Maintain documentation and data quality management guidelines. Write and prepare manuscripts reports and other materials for internal and external audiences.
  • Ensure data accuracy through review of forms or questionnaires for completeness and consistency.
  • Recognize recurring issues and analyze causes in order to reach a solution. Generate plans and provide tools/techniques for improvement and to measure success.
  • Provides guidance appropriate training to staff. Coordinate activities required to meet quality standards.
  • Maintains knowledge of current regulations and technologies related to data management.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  1. Early life household air pollution metal composition and cardiovascular health: Evidence from GRAPHS (R01 ES034433)
  2. Child lung development following a cookstove intervention: Evidence from GRAPHS (R01 ES026991)
  3. Developing climate cohorts to understand health associations and resilience and susceptibility factors in Ghana (R01 ES034433-02S1)

Excellent written and oral communication skills and a willingness to work as part of a collaborative team are required. Candidates will be responsible for moving forward several projects and maintaining active collaborations with outside investigators.

Relevant previous work and interest in environmental health particularly working with high dimensional raster data or personal exposure monitoring data. Strong quantitative skills practical experience working with complex epidemiology data familiarity with the Python and R statistical software packages and excellent oral communication and scientific writing are also necessary. Experience with high dimensional data is strongly preferred.



Qualifications
  • Bachelors Degree (Masters degree in related field preferred)
  • 3 years of data management/quality assurance/experience in a healthcare environment is preferred or less with demonstration of strong proficiency in a data-driven environment.
