Job Description
The Department of African American Studies at Syracuse University seeks a part-time instructor to teach two sections of AAS 201: Writing About Black Culture for 3 credits at the undergraduate level in the Fall 2025 semester. This course is designed to teach expository writing based on cogent analysis of African American literature art music and historical this process students will be focusing on acquiring information improving writing skills and sharpening critical thinking ability. The hiring rate of pay for the successful candidate will be determined based on their per-credit-rate-history within the hiring department. All course offerings are subject to funding availability and enrollment.
Responsibilities
Develop and/or update a class syllabus. Order the appropriate books and materials in advance of the class start date. Prepare lectures projects or other student assignments. Maintain regularly scheduled office hours. Presenting instruction based on the competencies and performance levels of the course. Meet all designated class periods. If you are unable to meet your class due to illness for emergency you should exercise your best effort to reschedule the class or obtain a substitute. Work with the academic unit to maintain student learning outcomes. Submit completed mid-semester progress reports and final grades according to the University regulations. Grade student assignments and exams in a timely manner. Provide department sanctioned forms for completed student evaluations. Complete all other course-related duties as outlined by your departments policies for part-time instructors.
Qualifications
Masters degree required; Doctorate (or ABD ) preferred. Doctoral training in Black Studies and Humanities preferred.
