Job Description
Assesses individuals referred for music therapy to determine treatment planning. Provides treatment team with social/emotional perspective based on assessment.
Responsibilities
- Individualizes plan of care determining course of therapy taken: individual group family.
- Arranges musical experiences to enhance the physical emotional and spiritual well-being of patient.
- Follows up with MD RN CSW and family regarding music therapy treatment objectives.
- Writes daily progress notes in the medical chart providing outcome of music therapy goals.
- Accompanies patients to medical tests surgery spirometry assisting in the comfort of patients which expedite process of interventions needed to be accomplished by staff.
- Determines the kind of music that is appropriate to relieve anxiety and pain during procedures.
- Provides imagery/ wind playing activities for asthmatic patients enhancing breath capacity improving peak flow measurements.
- Provides daily relaxation sessions enabling dying children the comfort and safety to sleep.
- Provides chanting for babies and toddlers for sedation when pharmacological agents cannot be used or are not effective in achieving sedative states for medical tests and procedures.
- Maintains records and collects data for three on-going music therapy studies which are representative of the programs musical objectives in the areas of pain sedation and asthma.
- Develops outpatient HIV music therapy services for patients siblings and families.
- Demonstrates positive outcomes of asthma in patient study-expanding services to outpatient clinic.
Qualifications
- The music therapist should hold a Masters in Music therapy or Creative Arts Therapy
- The Music therapist should have three or more years experience preferably in a medical setting with children.
- The Music Therapist should have experience in the supervision of interns and/or fieldwork students.
