The Industrials Group provides investment banking services to leading corporate and private equity clients focused on the capital goods engineered products diversified mobility aerospace industrial services and industrial technology sectors. The Groups strategic mandate is to assist companies as they navigate changes in the industrial landscape particularly within the energy ecosystem and the impact of technology.
Our client-centric approach leads with M&A and other financial advisory services with full access to the debt equity and loan capital also delivers complex risk hedging solutions to clients. The Industrials Group focuses extensively on leading private equity sponsors providing strategic advice including sell-side M&A as well as debt and equity financings buyout financings and risk management solutions. The Group has a global coverage strategy across North America Europe and Asia. We have bankers in New York and Chicago and partner with colleagues in other major cities including Houston San Francisco Toronto and London UK.
With guidance from Managing Directors Executive Directors or Directors you will complete assignments that impact the firms bottom line through transaction and financing execution client relationship support industry and company research and contributing to the overall communication flow across our global offices. The role provides you with steep learning and an ability to observe and influence the strategic direction of our clients businesses with exposure to company executives private equity partners and boards of directors.
What Youll Be Doing:
Assist in executing all facets of the groups mandates
Conduct industry research and analysis to assist in the identification and/or analysis of investment banking business opportunities
Play a key role in the preparation of client proposals pitchbooksand the execution of new and existing client mandates including overseeing Analyst work:
Develop and audit sophisticated financial models
Participate in cross functional teams and liaising with other units of CIBC Capital Markets in executing mandates or preparing proposals for clients
Prepare industry and financial analysis to assist with the development of client recommendations
Lead industry comparable value and transaction precedent analyses
Assist in company due diligence investigations
Support senior investment banking colleagues and directing and training analyst teammates
Take advantage of in depth technical and industry knowledge as well as the geopolitical environment to generate transaction ideas/opportunities that can be discussed with the relevant relationship manager and deal/coverage team
Relationship Building Grow your internal and external networks by participating in the following activities:
Coordinating client-focused and/or deal-focused brainstorming sessions with relevant team members and product specialists
Liaising with other units of CIBC Capital Markets in preparing proposals for clients
Developing relationships and actively communicating with various appropriate contacts at our clients
Developing and maintaining an internal network with product groups and other business groups
Developing and maintaining an external network with the market (i.e. key stakeholders clients prospects etc.)
Supporting CIBCs Culture of Care through involvement in community activities
Actively managing and mentoring the Analysts that work with you and providing regular feedback to them
How Youll Succeed:
Associates in the Industrials Group will be expected to provide a broad range of analytical research and presentation preparation support to all the professionals within their group and play a critical role in mentoring and training Analysts on the team. Typically Associates are assigned to a variety of transactions and advisory projects such as mergers & acquisitions divestitures equity and debt financings and capital structure and strategic advisory projects and must have strong prioritization and multi-tasking capabilities. You will also be expected to maintain an awareness of our clients industry regulatory issues and relevant economic/political trends.
Applying your strengths in quantitative analysis to create and direct complex financial analysis and models while extracting the big picture implications of such analysis will be critical to your success.
The role of an Associate is challenging and fast-paced. It requires dedication passion for the industry and a very solid work ethic. You must be able to accept flexibility in required personal time commitments to complete work assignments.
As part of the Industrials deal team you will gain exposure to working with individuals from various groups across the firm globally.A team approach to executing coverage M&A advisory and financing assignments is designed to provide progressive on the job training.
Who You Are

Education Youve Completed. Successful completion of an undergraduate degree.
Industry Experience. A minimum of 2 to 4 years of previous experience in investment banking. Strong senior Analysts will be considered. Experience must have included meaningful financial modeling and analysis. Working knowledge of the industrial sector and the capital markets is preferred.
Financial Skills. Excellent analytical ability including demonstrated knowledge of valuation techniques and practices including cash flow and returns analyses. Knowledge of accounting principles relating to financial statement preparation and business combinations.
Technical Skills (Programs Methodologies Systems). Strong quantitative technical skills as it relates to basic computer applications (Excel Word PowerPoint) industry technology (FactSet Bloomberg) and other applicable software.
Collaborative and Professional. Well-developed interpersonal and relationship building skills in order to develop manage and leverage relationships with clients and internal and/or external business partners. Well-developed written and verbal communication skills sufficient to provide detailed explanation and interpretation of factual and conceptual information and ideas related to complex technical and conceptual issues. Unquestioned professionalism ethics and reputation and proven ability to exercise strong independent judgment when making business decisions and/or representing CIBC Capital Markets.

At CIBC we offer a competitive total rewards package. This role has an expected salary range of $175000-$225000 for the New York NY market based on experience qualifications and location of the position. The successful candidate may be eligible to participate in the relevant business units incentive compensation plan which also may include a discretionary bonus component.
