Job Title: Clinical Technologist - Nuclear Medicine Location 1: NICoE 4860 S Palmer Rd Bethesda MD 20814 1 FTE
Location 2: ATAMMC 9300 Dewitt Loop Fort Belvoir VA 22060 1.5 FTE
Work Schedule: Monday Friday; 8HRs Shift 40 hours/week including holidays
Qualifications:
- Education: Successful completion of a 24-month Nuclear Medicine Technology program approved by the Committee on Allied Health Education and Accreditation (CAHEA) and recommended by the Joint Committee on Education in Nuclear Medicine Technology.
- Experience: Minimum of 1 year of recent full-time clinical experience (within the last 2 calendar years) in nuclear medicine imaging. NICoE positions require 3 5 years of experience and familiarity with PET and PET/CT.
License/Certification:
- Current certification through either the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) or the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in Nuclear Medicine ARRT(N).
- Unrestricted license in at least one U.S. state or territory.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from AHA or ARC.
- Citizenship: Must be a U.S. citizen
Responsibilities:
- Perform a wide variety of nuclear medicine imaging and non-imaging procedures including Planar SPECT and PET scans; Bone lung liver cardiac renal thyroid and antibody imaging; Sentinel node localization and tumor detection studies
- Non-imaging: thyroid uptakes whole-body counts Schilling tests total blood volumes urea breath tests and GFR measurements
- Prepare handle and administer radiopharmaceuticals including oral and intravenous forms under the supervision of a nuclear medicine physician.
- Start IVs perform phlebotomy administer contrast and medications and monitor patients for adverse reactions or changes in condition during procedures.
- Operate advanced imaging systems including GE and Siemens equipment as well as relevant processing software for acquisition QC archiving and networking studies.
- Perform 12-lead EKG setup and monitoring during stress testing and monitor oxygen and vitals for patients undergoing functional imaging procedures.
- Maintain radiation safety practices including safe handling storage and disposal of radioactive materials in compliance with NRC DOT and hospital regulations.
- Ensure proper labeling documentation and patient identification on all images and associated records.
- Monitor calibrate and perform quality control on gamma cameras radiopharmaceutical doses well counters thyroid probes and PET/CT systems.
- Document exams and procedures in the hospitals electronic health record (MHS Genesis) and archive imaging in PACS.
- Participate in departmental education training and quality improvement programs including training junior staff and residents.
- Respond to emergency situations initiate care measures and escalate to physician or emergency response as needed.
- Comply with infection control standards universal precautions and safety protocols including wearing dosimeters and following exposure guidelines.
- For NICoE assignments support clinical-research imaging by collaborating with research staff adapting protocols and contributing to data collection and reporting.
