Job Description
Job Title: Ultrasound Technologist (Radiologic)
Location: WRNMMC 8901 Rockville Pike Bethesda MD 20889
Work Schedule: 24/7 Rotating Shifts (including weekends and holidays) - Based on the needs of the government and coordinated through the designated supervisor.
- Day Techs: 07:30 - 16:00
- Day (Swing) Techs: 09:30 - 18:00
- Evening Techs: 15:00 - 23:30
- Night Techs: 23:00 - 07:30
- Weekend Day: 07:00 - 15:30
- Weekend Evening: 15:00 - 23:30
- Weekend Night: 23:00 - 07:30
Qualifications:
- Education: Completion of a formal ultrasound education program recognized by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS).
- Experience: A minimum of 2 years of ultrasound experience after training including 1 year in a hospital experience setting is required. An entry-level career contract exemption will be considered for qualified students who completed their clinical training at WRNMMC.
- License/Certification:
- Current Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) certification
- Unrestricted sonographer license in at least one U.S. state territory or commonwealth
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the AHA or ARC
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification
- Citizenship: Must be a U.S. citizen
Responsibilities:
- Independently perform a wide range of ultrasound exams including Abdomen renal liver spleen; OB/GYN (1st 2nd 3rd trimester) endovaginal; Carotid DVT (upper/lower extremities); Testicular scrotal pelvic thyroid neck; Pediatric/neonatal head spine hip and abdomen; Ultrasound-guided procedures (e.g. biopsies drainages)
- Work closely with radiologists and referring providers to triage STAT emergencies and routine exam requests ensuring diagnostic-quality images and appropriate prioritization.
- Use advanced imaging techniques and settings including Color/pulse wave Doppler; Proper gain depth insonation angles; Correct anatomical labeling and measurement standards
- Ensure exam completion within assigned shifts; provide hand-offs through IPASS documentation for uncompleted exams and collaborate with the reading radiologist.
- Assist in patient preparation and safety communicate procedure steps clearly and provide compassionate care to diverse patient populations (including inpatient outpatient emergency pediatric and high-acuity patients).
- Operate and maintain ultrasound equipment and manage daily QA including probes transducers and image processing systems.
- Document all exams in MHS Genesis archive images via PACS and ensure timely upload and access by interpreting physicians.
- Adhere to WRNMMCs infection control policies including use of universal precautions high-level disinfection practices and proper PPE.
- Participate in training activities including onboarding of new technologists instruction for residents and students and departmental in-services.
- Respond to emergency imaging needs 24/7 including on-call and holiday requirements.
