Position: Grounds Attendant I

FLSA Status: Non-exempt

This position includes a variety of duties that involve year around care and maintenance of exterior grounds. The position will be responsible for lawn and plant care snow removal and maintaining clean safe and clear access to and from the Museum. Under supervision of the lead groundskeeper maintenance supervisor managers and Facility Planning and Operations director.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Cares for and maintains grass shrubs plants trees sidewalks paving blocks steps landings parking lot and drains by use of broom rake edge trimmer leaf blower lawn mower Bobcat and pick-up truck
  2. Uses shovels snow blower Bobcat and pick-up truck with plow to remove snow and ice from Museum entrances exterior stairs landings sidewalks driveway and parking lot
  3. Performs daily rounds of Museum property picking up refuse and emptying exterior garbage containers
  4. Maintain safe clean and clear entrances to the Museum at all times
  5. Works with team leader to perform scheduled maintenance and monitor inventory of lawn and snow removal tools and equipment to keep them in safe working order
  6. Raises and lowers American and Chicago flags including setting flags at half staff
  7. Communicate professionally and effectively with the public coworkers supervisory staff and contractors in performance of daily grounds keeping tasks
  8. Maintain safe and clean office work areas tool/equipment storage areas
  9. Assists facilities maintenance staff when needed
  10. Performs other appropriate duties as assigned by team leader supervisor managers or director

Qualifications:

  1. High school diploma or GED
  2. Grounds keeping or landscaping experience.
  3. Snow removal experience a plus
  4. Valid Illinois drivers license

Working Conditions

  1. Ability to work in exterior settings year around in a wide range of temperature and weather conditions
  2. Ability to come into work early and stay late when weather conditions require ie; snow wind damage or flooding

Physical Demands

  1. Lifting pushing pulling reaching upward/downward grasping walking standing stooping kneeling crouching sitting standing driving

Receives general supervision from the Facilities Operations Manager.

Supervision Exercised:
This position has no direct supervisory responsibilities.

Pay Range: $18.50/Hourly
