Job Duties

About the Position:

The Virginia State Police (VSP) is seeking to hire a Secretary Senior in our Division No. 2 Area No. 13 Office located in Winchester Virginia. The job duties for this position include but are not limited to:

Providing administrative and secretarial support to the Area First Sergeant Sergeants and Troopers by composing and typing routine and confidential reports and correspondences.
Keying data into various computer programs and managing files.
Managing and coordinating office operations to include coordinating meetings and scheduling assignments and serving as an Alternate Evidence Custodian.
Processing Freedom of Information Act requests.
Providing information in compliance with Department policy by telephone or in person.
Processing incoming and outgoing mail.

Minimum Qualifications

Working knowledge of standard English grammar spelling and proper usage of punctuation; of office practices and procedures; and of manual/automated alphabetic numeric and other generally accepted filing systems.
Skill in operating computers and in using Microsoft Office applications.
Demonstrated ability to prepare administrative reports and correspondence; to collect and assemble data and information; to enter and record data in various computer systems; to prioritize work assignments; to interpret and follow oral and written rules and regulations; to apply general office policies and procedures; to use standard office automated equipment; to learn the operation of office equipment as changes occur; to greet visitors and answer phones in a professional manner; to disseminate information efficiently and accurately; to communicate effectively orally and in writing in English; to multi-task as needed; and to work independently and as a member of a team.
Experience working in an office environment.
Secretarial experience required.
Requires Virginia Criminal Information Network (VCIN) certified which requires either United States citizenship or a lawful permanent resident of the United States and eligible for naturalization.
Must be qualified to serve as a Notary Public.
High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
