Job Description
Working/Functional Title
Veterinary Nurse - Radiology (weekends)
Position Summary
Provide patient care for ill and injured animals in the Veterinary Teaching Hospital. This position will primarily be working in the VMC Radiology unit; performs Diagnostic Imaging examinations; instructs and demonstrates techniques to students; assists students veterinary technicians and veterinarians in their work; maintains supplies equipment and cleanliness of hospital areas.
Minimum Requirements
Knowledge normally acquired in the first two or three years in college technical or vocational school in Veterinary Technology; six months to one year of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in extensive patient care surgery anesthesia drug-dosing and sterilization; experience in the use of spreadsheet and word processing software or an equivalent combination of education and experience; licensed as a Veterinary Technician with the State of Michigan or attainment of such certification within one year from date of employment.

- Experience with veterinary anesthesia and sedation protocols
- Familiarity with radiation-emitting equipment and safety protocols
- Experience supporting or teaching veterinary students
- Proficiency or interest in ultrasound techniques
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills

Work Hours
This is a full-time position. Ideal shifts include FridaySunday (10:00 a.m.10:00 p.m.) or FridayMonday (11:30 a.m.8:00 p.m.) though there is some flexibility with days and hours.

Lifting and carrying animals up to 50 lbs individually or 150 lbs as a team.
Summary of Health Risks
Potential exposure to animal or specimens with Mycobacterium bovis. Work with animals or unfixed animal tissue.
