PURPOSE STATEMENT
The Head Basketball Coach will direct the basketball program at the high school level.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Implement teaching and coaching philosophies consistent with the Walla Walla School District and Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) mission statements.
- Instruct participants in individual group and team techniques tactics and physical training necessary for the realization of success.
- Communicate a clearly defined philosophy which emphasizes ethical competition sportsmanship leadership and citizenship with students parents staff and community members.
- Utilize effective coaching techniques for skill development strategy and interpersonal team relations.
- Develop and promote high level performance expectations for all players and coaches.
- Support and help implement the established off-season strength conditioning and skills development program.
- Active oversight and involvement in the 3-12 WWPS basketball program.

District Athletic Director Building Principal and Personnel.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
- Teaching certificate and experience is strongly preferred.
- Previous experience coaching competitive basketball at the level of high school or above.
- Three years as a head basketball coach or assistant coach or experience in coaching basketball at the college level.
- Successful experience in teaching technical sports/basketball skills to secondary school student athletes.
- High School Diploma or GED.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrated ability in effectively carrying out the duties of the basketball program as established by the High School Principal Athletic Director and policies of the Walla Walla School District.
- Verified coaching techniques in the area of scope and sequence of skill development safety teamwork strategy interpersonal relations routine training practice and game organization.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with students parents assistant coaches administrators staff and community; effective public relations skills.
- Evidence of short and long-term organization and management skills.
- Evidence of being a positive role model.
- Clearly-defined philosophy for the coaching level applied for.
- Professional integrity vigor flexibility enthusiasm.
Licenses/Special Requirements
- WIAA certification and compliance with WIAA and district rules and regulations.
- Must meet the age requirements of WIAA applicable to this position.
- High school coaches are required before beginning their third year of coaching to complete a minimum of five (5) hours of instruction or complete the NFHS Coaches Fundamentals Course or attend all sessions of the WIAA Coaches School or other Coaches School as approved by the WIAA or the local school district. After initial completion coaches will be required to repeat this training every three (3) years.
- Possess current First Aid/CPR cards and be versed in related preventative health and training standards.
- Meet and maintain coaching standards as determined by the District and Washington Interscholastic Activities Association.
- Completed Employment Application/ Background Check.
