The City of Ventura is now accepting applications for the position ofFIRE BATTALION CHIEF(Promotional Only).
The Fire Battalion Chief works under the direction of the Operations Chief and is responsible for supervising the activities of an assigned battalion of fire companies and coordinating activities with other shifts divisions and programs in the Fire Department and the City. The Fire Battalion Chief performs a leadership role in the City disaster response plan. Battalion Chiefs may be assigned to a fifty-six (56) or forty (40) hour per week position.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
A combination of education training and/or experience equivalent to graduation from high school and seven years of progressively responsible experience in a public fire agency including two years experience as a Fire Captain with the Ventura Fire Department. A four-year degree supplemented with significant coursework or special training in a related field is desirable. A management certificate and/or training in effective management practices is highly desirable.
License: Depending on assignment possession of a valid California Class C drivers license may be required.
Certificate: Possession of a current and valid EMT-1 or EMT-P certification. Possession of a current and valid CPR certification.

Department Selection Interview:
Candidates meeting the minimum qualifications will have their name placed on an eligibility list for the position of Fire Battalion Chief and forwarded to the Fire department for consideration. The selection process may involve any or all of the following: a written communication exercise a comprehensive assessment of the professional and personal skills and abilities a review of past performance appraisals recommendations from previous supervisors recommendations from the management team and a department selection interview. The Fire Chief may select any candidate whose name has been certified to the eligibility list.
The Eligibility List established for this classification may be used to fill other regular and temporary vacancies at the discretion of the City.
