Job Description

JOB GOAL:

To advance the colleges mission vision principles values and strategic initiatives through continuous improvement decisions.

GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:

Academic success starts when students fundamental needs such as nutrition and transportation are met and addressed with respect and purpose. The Student Resource and Engagement Coordinator oversees operations for two campus food pantries (Johnson County and Cedar Rapids) the 380 Express Bus program building community partnerships and programming and supervising student workers. The coordinator helps foster a compassionate student-first culture where dignity inclusion and well-being are prioritized. This position ensures students have consistent respectful and dignified access to food personal care items transportation and applied learning opportunities. Through thoughtful coordination supervision and collaboration the coordinator cultivates a campus culture that empowers students to excel personally and academically.

The typical work schedule for this position is Monday through Friday from 8 am to 5 pm with occasional weekends due to student activities.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead and support the operations of two campus food pantries ensuring each space is welcoming respectful and easy for students to access.
  • Recruit train and supervise student workers and volunteers providing leadership and fostering teamwork and empathy in service delivery.
  • Manage student access to the 380 Express Bus program including communication eligibility and coordination with transportation partners.
  • Coordinate internship opportunities for students in program areas working closely with faculty and community partners.
  • Supervise a team of part-time staff student staff and interns in pantry and program areas fostering professional development confidence and care-centered service.
  • Forge connections with campus and community partners in the Corridor area to enhance student wraparound services including on-campus community resource fairs.
  • Contribute to assessment grant writing and strategic planning for basic needs programming.
  • Ensure both campus pantries comply with food safety requirements and policies are clean organized and open during advertised hours. Bus pass distribution and internship coordination are also completed on time and clearly for students.

PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS:

  • Create a welcoming judgment-free environment in all service areas ensuring every student feels respected valued and safe accessing support.
  • Supervise and guide student employees and volunteers in a way that builds their confidence develops their professional skills and reinforces a culture of empathy and responsibility.
  • Respond promptly respectfully and helpfully to student questions and staff inquiries. Maintain strong consistent communication with supervisors faculty and partners.
  • Handle all student information with discretion in compliance with FERPA and institutional guidelines and foster a culture of trust in support spaces.
  • Accurately track pantry usage bus program participation and internship hours. Use the data to improve services and advocate for increased student access.
  • Collaborate across departments and with external partners to expand access to resources student support and experiential learning.
  • Proactively identify needs coordinate schedules maintain documentation and ensure all areas are prepared for daily service and long-term planning.
  • Represent basic needs programming in college initiatives with a spirit of care equity and community. Actively support efforts that affirm students identities and lived experiences.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES WITH/WITHOUT REASONABLE ACCOMMODATION:

Position involves working in an office setting. Occasional (10-33%) standing pushing pulling and grasping lifting up to 50 pounds. Frequent (34-66%) reaching and viewing a computer and other types of close visual work lifting to 20 pounds. Constant (67-100%) sitting walking repetitive motion talking and hearing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors degree required. No particular major or degree program is preferred; along with a strong understanding of issues related to race structural barriers and biasparticularly as they impact access to basic needsis preferred along with experience engaging diverse communities and community-based organizations.
  • A minimum of two years of professional experience in student services case management basic needs coordination food pantry operations or community outreach is required.
  • Experience supervising staff student employees or volunteers in a service or support environment.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills capable of handling multiple responsibilities across various locations.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication abilities combined with a caring and empathetic approach to student assistance
  • Demonstrate proficiency in utilizing data and fundamental technological tools to monitor and report on usage or participation.
  • Valid drivers license and ability to travel regularly between Johnson County and Cedar Rapids.
  • Ability to occasionally work evening or weekend hours to support student-facing events or programs

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS LICENSES CERTIFICATIONS OR REGISTRATIONS:

  • Masters degree preferred. Experience in postsecondary educational setting college student development counseling advising or related experience. Demonstrated competence working with organizations community partners and programs. Understanding of the community college mission history and challenges in achieving equity.
