Job Summary:This Posting is for Current Internal ADHS Applicants ONLY.

This position will lead cancer registration activities by coordinating managing and leading the program effort in establishing statewide reporting from small hospitals and non-hospital facilities per regulation to ensure cancer case reporting. This position will be responsible for a designated group of reporting facilities which include hospitals clinics physicians dentists nurse practitioners and pathology laboratories.
This position is responsible for work of considerable difficulty and duties include but are not limited to:
- Assisting in the implementation and evaluation of a health program that collects information related to the diagnosis and treatment ofpatients with cancer.
- Interpreting program regulations policies and procedures coding handbook standards and guidance documents.
- Providing program assistance and technical guidance to reporting entities.
- Performing program evaluation and monitors program performance of reporting entities to assure conformance with rules andregulations.
- Identifying education and training issues and consults section managers on findings.
- Reviewing analyzing evaluating and monitoring all case reports and other documents submitted to ensure data submissionstandards are complied with and in accordance with standards of quality format data elements timeliness and completeness.
- Working independently on assigned facilities and as part of a review team.
- Developing updating and revising submission timetables policies and procedures that monitor the work of reporting facilities as partof the operations Team.
- Assisting with development of best practices of processing merging and editing data.
- Performs special quality studies/assessments; assists in the development of goals and objectives for assessing statewide data;assists in the development and implementation of operational procedures program rules and regulations; performs activities required
of the federal grant; prepares and writes reports; may assist with interns/contractors.
- Keeps abreast of national reporting standards and procedures that affect cancer reporting in Arizona.
- Is responsible in building partnerships with mandated entities.
- Required to travel statewide as necessary

Job Duties:

Reviews analyzes evaluates and monitors case reports and other documents submitted toensure data submission standards are complied with and in accordance with standards of quality format data elements timeliness and completeness and provides feedback/reports to designated facilities (hospitals clinics physicians dentists nurse practitioners and pathology laboratories).

Provides technical assistance program guidance and expertise in cancer registration information on cancer treatment etc to ensure standards of quality timeliness and completeness. Provides assistance regarding coding principles and standards for abstracting and develops partnerships with mandated reporting facilities; responds to questions and provides information to ensure quality information and to facilitate clear concise communication with reporting facilities.

Assists with the development and implementation of operational best practices of processing merging and editing data in order for operations to manage efficiently and to document procedures. Performs quality assessments and studies to analyze the data submitted.

Acts as the primary liaison between the registry and small hospitals to establish data collection by regulation to ensure cancer case reporting. Coordinates a/non-hospital facilities statewide and leads the team effort which includes gathering information identifying and analyzing medical records/documents to summarize cancer case information (demographics cancer type stage of disease treatment and follow-up).

Analyzes develops and writes reports to reporting facilities and management indicatingcompliance with or deficiency according to cancer rules and procedures as applied to the reporting of cancer.

Works as part of the Operations team to develop update and revise submission timetables policies and procedures and performs program evaluation in monitoring the work of reporting facilities.

Interprets and explains to mandated reporting entities to assure conformance: cancer registry policies and procedures statute and regulations and reporting and abstracting rules as set forth by the program (Arizona Cancer Registry) and by national standard setters. Performs research for inquiries and submits inquiries to national standard setters as necessary.

Prepares writes and submits reports that are required by management (e.g. administrative statistical). Writes reports that contribute to the federal cooperative agreement progress reports and continuation applications in order to comply with federal requirements. Attends meetings related to assignment. May assist with and supervise interns/contractors on special assignments.

-Human anatomy and physiology as it relates to the diagnosis and treatment of cancer
-Medical terminology relating to diagnosis pathology staging and treatment of cancer
-Methodology used to identify cancer cases; registry database management
-Microsoft products (Word Excel PowerPoint Publisher Access)
-Program planning

ODS eligible (eligibility guidelines at with at least 2 years professional experience in a cancer registry program. Associates degree in Health Information Mgmt Health Information Technology or related field may substitute for 1 year exp.
