08/15/2025Assigns vehicles and drivers to perform specific services and/or record such information concerning vehicle movement; routes and dispatches buses daily to and from school and related activities. This is a position where bus driving may be required.The following statements are illustrative of the essential functions of the job and other key duties that may be required. Reports consistently for work as scheduled
Performs other duties as assigned
Attains proficient or higher evaluations on established Performance Standards
Answers telephone provides information to callers takes messages forwards phone calls as appropriate; greets visitors to building courteously determines their needs and provides information or directions
Attends training and meetings as required
Completes pre-trip and post-trip inspections as required
Contacts and assigns relief drivers and other department drivers as required
Coordinates transportation requests and/or field trips using the field trip software
Cross trains other dispatchers in areas of expertise
Develops and maintains required reports
Dispatches school buses and activity vehicles
Ensures that all safety rules and regulations are followed
Identifies and reports mechanical malfunctions to appropriate staff members
Interprets and explains district rules policies regulations and procedures to the public
Keeps current with applicable local federal and state regulations and laws governing the operation of school transportation vehicles
Stays current with student behavioral management techniques
Maintains clean and efficient operating work area
Maintains office filing system
Maintains up-to-date and accurate transportation paperwork
Maintains various databases and reports
Meets the essential functions for Bus Driver when operating in that capacity
Notifies and assigns drivers when schedule changes dictate
Obtains and maintains certifications necessary to support special needs students
Operates computer routing system
Performs a variety of duties using various types of office equipment
Performs simulated or actual emergency evacuations of all vehicle occupants
Possesses and maintains an acceptable driving record
Provides assistance to other office staff
Qualifies for districts Vehicle Operator License Insurance
Responds to and researches driver inquiries
Schedules and assigns drivers concerning route and activity responsibilities
Sets up files and sorts a variety of documents to include sensitive and confidential information
Sorts incoming and outgoing mail
Stores lost and found items and arranges for disbursement
Successfully completes road skill tests skills course and written evaluations

Ability to drive and operate a school bus safely

Ability to establish and maintain record systems

Has oral and auditory capacity enabling interaction interpersonally and/or through communication devices
Uses eyes hands and finger coordination enabling the use of equipment and writing utensils
Subject to hazardous conditions of ice and snow while performing transportation duties
Lifts or carries burdens up to 50 lbs. and pushes and/or pulls other burdens weighing 100 lbs.; may have to lift students when required
Has visual capacity enabling safe operation of tools and machinery
Distinguishes depth and objects in a wide field of vision
Spends the majority of time sitting and may stand and walk while performing duties
Performs inclement weather response duties as required
Conducts activities involving climbing stooping kneeling/bending crouching/squatting twisting and reaching
