Job Description

We are looking for a Director of Clinical Outcomes to join our team at Kansas Spine & Specialty Hospital!

Duties and Responsibilities:

PEOPLE

  1. Nurtures the development of appropriate working relationships with facility administrators physicians department leaders and employees
  2. Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication skills in keeping staff informed

SERVICE / LEADERSHIP

  1. Participates in Employee Orientation as appropriate
  2. Models appropriate interaction with staff to ensure high level of service in all areas of responsibility
  3. Provides educational opportunities to clinical staff
  4. Participates in the development and evaluation of professional practice by participating in department and/or hospital committees special projects and attendance at leadership meetings
  5. Responsible for actively pursuing knowledge and compliance with TJC CMS and Texas Health and Human Services regulations
  6. Fosters teamwork effective communication and collaboration among all departments
  7. Assures customer complaints are addressed timely with follow through to resolution to foster an environment of Service Excellence. Responds to customer concerns (written verbal or in person) within 48-72 hours. Closes the loop timely with all parties when following up on complaints
  8. Accepts accountability for assignments adapts to various working conditions and supports or assists coworkers when needed

  8. Drives departmental processes and communication toward prioritizing quality outcomes including aggressive safety compliance. Routinely shares outcome metrics with all staff
  9. Knowledgeable of core measures HCAHPS and publicly reported data
  10. Performs clinical debriefings Code Blue debriefings Root Cause Analysis meetings and Proactive Risk Assessments
  11. Assesses occurrence reports for trends and opportunities for improvement
  12. Assist with OPPE and FPPE data collection
  13. Track and trend safety events identifying opportunities for improvement and initiates actions plans based upon needs and acceptable standards of the organization.
  14. Mitigate risk through proactive implementation of evidence-based practices to ensure best patient outcomes.
  15. Participates with and notifies insurers as needed to ensure appropriate follow-up and actions are

FINANCE

  1. Prevents readmissions by working with case management navigator and patients
  2. Work is completed in a cost-efficient manner
  3. Performs other administrative duties as required
  4. Maintains most cost-effective strategies to meet budgetary expectations. Consistently evaluates for strategies to reduce lengths of stay
  5. Monitors HAC HAI and Meaningful Use and Pepper reports for potential penalties
  6. Reduces financial risk to the organization through proactive risk management/patient safety and quality programs.

GROWTH

  1. Provides monthly staff education activities based on needs assessment / leadership requests
  2. Shows willingness to take on additional assignments to assist others in the facility
  3. Keeps abreast of current developments in quality and patient safety
  4. Pursues opportunities for continuing education

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrates eligibility for employment in the U.S.
  • Graduate of a school of professional nursing with current and valid licensure with the Kansas State Board of Nursing as a Registered Nurse.
  • Bachelors in either Nursing or related health care field required.
  • Masters Degree in Nursing/related health care field preferred
  • BLS prerequisite
  • Minimum of 10 years nursing experience in a hospital required; 5 years direct supervisory experience; and 3 years of performance improvement experience highly desired
  • Specialty certification highly desired (RNC CNOR CPHRM CPHQ CPPS etc.)
  • Familiarity with Kansas Board of Nursing professional nursing standards and the ANA Scope of Service standards and performs in accordance with them.
  • Understanding of Kansas Administrative Regulations promulgated by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment as they pertain to Hospital Operations Quality Infection Prevention Employee Health Risk Management and Outpatient Surgery requirements.
  • Knowledge of commonly used concepts practices and procedures within Quality Safety Infection Prevention and Control Employee Health and Risk Management.
  • Knowledge of state federal and accrediting body regulations and standards related to healthcare. (CDC Guidelines The Joint Commission Standards CMS and KDPH)
  • Ability to relate and work effectively with others.
  • Ability to read write and communicate effectively in English with additional languages preferred.
  • Demonstrates ability to comprehend written and oral instructions.
  • Willingness to participate in goal-setting and educational activities for his/her own professional advancement and that of others.
  • Must be computer literate with basic computer skills that are required to perform essential job-related duties including Microsoft Suite Excel and Powerpoint.

Knowledge Skills & Abilities:

Under the supervision of the Chief Nursing Officer the Director of Clinical Outcomes oversees performance improvement infection prevention employee health and risk management initiatives in compliance with all regulatory requirements. Responsible for driving positive patient experience outcomes and establishes and promotes collaborative and effective relationships with physicians patients families vendors and additional members of the healthcare team. Educates members of the healthcare team on Quality Improvement and drives improvement using the PDSA (Plan-Do-Study-Act) model. Keeps current with health care trends related to population care quality safety and performance improvement. Leads and directs quality improvement activities that produce better patient care and more efficient operations. Tracks and presents results of improvement efforts event reports and ongoing measures of clinical processes to hospital and corporate leaders. Stays current with NAHQ (National Association for Healthcare Quality) and AHRQ (Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality) and IHI (Institute for Healthcare Improvement) and SP (Surgery Partners) standards. Familiar with ECRI (Emergency Care Research Institute) and ISMP (Institute for Safe Medication Practices) evidence-based safety recommendations. Helps to advance excellence in the facility by producing evidence that makes healthcare safer higher quality more accessible equitable and affordable. Responsible for all regulatory oversight and management of the facility. Assists in Quality Strategic Planning for the facility.

Projects a professional demeanor and appearance while maintaining the confidentiality of patients coworkers and facility information and adhering to all HIPAA requirements and guidelines. Reports in good faith any known or suspected activity that appears to violate laws rules regulations or the SP Code of Conduct. Fulfills annual continuing education requirements.

Physical Requirements:

May be expected to lift up to 10 - 20 pounds occasionally. Work is of light demand; walking standing and sitting most of the time while on duty. Visual and auditory acuity and manual dexterity essential to performing designated duties required. Optimal auditory acuity required. Manual dexterity involving the handling of office equipment is essential to performing assigned duties. Physical conditions are clean neat and well lit. Climate control and ambient temperature variances may be experienced. Hours of duty may be irregular or unexpectedly extended due to the requirements of the job.
