Description
In summary the Laboratory Technical Assistant is responsible for:
- Assisting the Laboratory Manager and Senior Laboratory Technician in the efficient operation of the winery laboratory
- Daily duties include routine analyses and managing analysis requests from winemakers
- If required act as back up to senior technician in laboratory consumable ordering and organisation of laboratory
- Equipment calibration and troubleshooting
- Supporting the training of vintage or laboratory new staff
- Shift work required during vintage.
- Sampling and conducting a variety of different laboratory tests some of these include:
- Grape maturity analysis;
- sugars;
- sulphurs;
- volatile acidity;
- pH and total acidity;
- dissolved oxygen (DO);
- carbon dioxide and alcohol; and
- fermentation sample collection and analysis
Skills And Experiences
Qualities Qualifications and Experience
Essential
- Minimum 1-2 Years experience in Laboratory Environment
- Familiarity with current laboratory technologies and equipment
- Experience in a customer service driven environment
- Intermediate computer skills with a sound understanding of the Microsoft Office Suite of applications
- Ability to take initiative in interpreting analytical results and flag problems or potential quality concerns
- Time management skills the ability to meet deadlines and operate oneself in an efficient manner
- The ability to self-manage and work autonomously and work in collaboration with a team
Desirable
- Certificate III or IV in Laboratory Techniques
- Qualification in chemistry food science or related discipline
- Degree in Chemistry or Food Sciences
- Problem-solving abilities that reflect a positive and consultative approach
- Experience in the Wine Industry orFood / Beverage or PharmaceuticalManufacturing Industries
