Job Description

District Nurse - District Office

This position is for the2025-2026 School Year.

Overview of Position:

School nursing is a specialized practice of professional nursing that advances the well-being academic success and life-long achievement and health of students. To that end school nurses facilitate positive student responses to normal development; promote health and safety including a healthy environment; intervene with actual and potential health problems; provide case management services; and actively collaborate with others to build student and family capacity for adaptation self-management self advocacy and learning. (National Association of School Nurses 2010)

Responsibilities/Duties:

In accordance with the standards of school nursing practice and Oregon nurse practice act implement appropriate use of the nursing process to plan and provide individualized nursing care in the school community including nursing delegation and training for an anticipated emergency.

  1. Manage delivery of school health services including health screenings communicable disease control health education and environmental monitoring;
  2. Attain and integrate evidence-based knowledge and clinical competency including appropriate technology service delivery;
  3. Collaborate with the student family school staff school nurse colleagues and other pertinent professional and community persons including supervisor in the delivery of school health services in an effort to maximize academic potential;
  4. Act as the liaison to facilitate resource access and utilization by the school student and family to meet the students safety health and education needs;
  5. Promote healthy school environment by providing Emergency Response Team (ERT) training which includes CPR First Aid Bloodborne Pathogen and administration of injectable emergency medications;
  6. Monitors immunizations for compliance to state laws and school policies.
  7. Adhere to the jurisdiction of both the Clackamas County Health Department and WLWV School District to monitor and report communicable diseases as required by law;
  8. Oversees non-nursing staff in managing medical records health room visits and medication management;
  9. Maintains accurate appropriate and confidential medical records;
  10. Serve on advisory committees/consultation for health accommodations necessary to support student individual education care plans (i.e. 504 and IEP).

Essential Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  1. Working knowledge of applicable laws and nursing practice regulations and standards;
  2. Demonstrates effective written and verbal communication skills;
  3. Demonstrates organization leadership and time management skills;
  4. Ability to work effectively and cooperatively within the structures of the Health Services Team;
  5. Valid drivers license and vehicle available for use on the job;
  6. Ability to become proficient navigating in internal and external data systems including data entry and report production pertinent to delivery of school health services;
  7. Ability to physically perform assigned duties;
  8. Ability to multi-task and work independently with high degree of accuracy efficiency and attention to detail.

Educational Requirements:

  • Unencumbered and current Oregon license to practice as a Registered Nurse.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Experience in the use of computer systems.
  • BSN/BS in a health-related field.
