Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

The University Pastor serves as the Dean of Spiritual Formation for the Vanguard University community and as the administrator of the Spiritual Formation Department (SFD). This position supervises the work of the Spiritual Formation staff and student leaders oversees Chapel services small group discipleship retreats and provides pastoral care to all students and employees. This position envisions with input from students faculty staff and administration the means by which Vanguard fulfills the spiritual formation dimension of its mission to equip each student for a Spirit-empowered life of Christ-centered leadership and service and champions the integration of spiritual development into campus culture. The University Pastor and Dean of Spiritual Formation is a member of the Student Development Leadership Team and reports to the Vice President for Student Development. The University Pastor and Dean of Spiritual Formation is hired by and serves at the pleasure of the University President.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Spiritual Leadership

Provide strategic oversight by developing and implementing a comprehensive vision that aligns its mission with the Universitys overall spiritual and educational goals

Work with University leadership to continually develop and execute key initiatives that foster spiritual growth of students faculty and staff

Design and implement initiatives that integrate faith and learning across the institutions curriculum and extracurricular activities

Serve as the primary representative of the department engaging with donors alumni and external partners to advance the departments mission

Develop and implement a chapel program that fosters meaningful spiritual engagement creating an environment where students are inspired to participate out of personal desire and connection rather than obligation

Design and lead spiritual formation events that inspire a deeper relationship with the Lord and encourage transformative growth in students lives

Provide pastoral counseling spiritual guidance and crisis support to students and community members through small groups and discipleship programs

Cultivate leadership development with the SFD student leaders by integrating service-learning opportunities in the spiritual formation curriculum

Campus Collaboration

Collaborate with faculty to integrate chapel and spiritual formation initiatives providing students with a seamless experience of integrating faith learning and life in and outside of the classroom

Provide impactful opportunities for worship outreach and spiritual development by collaborating with various departments across campus including Residence Life Student Engagement and Inclusion Commuter Life Center for Wellness and Health Promotion Music Global Education and Outreach the School of Theology and Ministry and Athletic department

Staff Supervision

Lead the recruitment hiring and development of staff within the department fostering a culture of excellence and collaboration

Manage the departments budget ensuring effective allocation of resources to support programming and personnel

QUALIFICATIONS:

Earned masters degree in ministry theology divinity or a related field. Advanced degree preferred

Required to be licensed or ordained with the Assemblies of God. Ordination preferred

Demonstrated exemplary pastoral leadership

Proven experience in leading spiritual formation programs. Higher education setting preferred

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Strong leadership abilities and ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders

Commitment to fostering a welcoming and inclusive spiritual environment for all students

An understanding and commitment to the mission and vision of Vanguard University
