Purpose:


Contributes to the overall success of the GWO Tax Reporting team and Tax Coe for globally held assets in Prime Brokerage Scotia Capital Inc. Scotia Wealth Management ITRADE Scotiatrust BNS Custody Services and BNS Foreign Subsidiaries and MD Finance. Ensuring specific individual goals plans initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the teams business strategies and objectives. Ensure all activities conducted are following governing regulations internal policies and procedures.

Is this role right for you In this role you will:


Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships systems and knowledge.
Works with the Manager Tax Support to resolve complex multi-faceted problems to meet the business needs.
Provides guidance in the remediation of identified tax operations issues and gaps.
As a Tax Reporting Assistant Manager you will be the subject matter expert in defined aspects of Scotiabank client tax delivery program and oversee aspects of Scotiabank duties relevant to tax slip production and distribution to all clients including queries and advisor communications.
Play a crucial role in ensuring that Scotiabank reputation is protected by adhering to Scotiabank compliance and risk framework.
Ensure operational efficiency of the Tax Reporting Dept. is maintained at a high level in accordance with the approved policy and procedures
Produces regulatory reports in accordance with SOPs/production schedule/regulatory reporting deadlines.
Gathers data performs quality control functions & compiles data for report submission.
Ensures report timeliness completeness & accuracy of submission to defined management for approval
Analyse the annual tax campaign activities as it pertains to Regulatory Reporting (CRA &/OR QI &/OR FTT
Ensure a high level of customer service level is provided to internal clients including Scotia Capital Wealth Management (Scotia McLeod / iTRADE / Scotia Trust GBM and MD) and the Bank (Custody Services)
See issues through to resolution and in an effective and efficient manner conducting analysis and providing recommendations as required.
Takes ownership and management of tax-related mailboxes addressing escalations by engaging business partners conducting investigations and providing written responses to Advisor Teams. Includes dedicated focus on escalations and time sensitive matters.
Generates monthly reporting analysis and commentary on call and email volumes.
Issue based analysis - Provides a level of analysis which assists with problem solving and solution recommendations to Management team.
Effectively manage risk and minimize losses and ensure effective procedural internal controls are in place
Understand how the Banks risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
Ensuring adequacy adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational risk regulatory compliance risk AML/ATF risk and conduct risk including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Guidelines for Business Conduct.

Do you have the skills that will enable you to succeed in this role Wed love to work with you if you have:


3 or more years of experience in tax reporting / filing process
Working knowledge of taxability wrt to dividends income processing and reorg
Strong knowledge of the operational processes and systems used in support of Wealth Management business
Excellent written verbal and presentation skills
Ability to work well in a team environment
Problem solver and passionate about delivering quality service
Customer Centric mindset
Knowledge of Broadridge platforms
Working knowledge of the following systems: TFP TXSY CDS DTCC BFS AS400.
College or University degree related to Taxation or Accounting Preferred (3-year program)
Tax related courses certifications or industry designation
Strong reconciliation and analytical skills


Work Arrangement:

This role requires being in office four days per week subject to change based on business needs.
Non-standard hours are a common occurrence.
Thrive in a fast-paced environment and can manage completing priorities effectively.
Critical deadlines must be met to avoid potential penalties on meeting CRA and IRS deadlines
