Position Overview The Building Support Service Maintenance Technician plays a vital role in supporting the operational efficiency and safety of Awty International Schools physical campus. This position is responsible for performing a wide range of general maintenance tasks including repair of building systems (HVAC plumbing electrical) preventive maintenance safety compliance custodial assistance and event preparation. The technician works closely with the facilities team and school administrators to ensure the infrastructure remains safe functional and conducive to learning. Reports to: Executive Director of Facilities & Construction Position Type: Full-Time In-Person Work Hours: 6:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. with flexibility required for early mornings evenings and occasional weekend assignments or special functions. Essential job functions may include but are not limited to: - Perform routine and urgent maintenance tasks to ensure building systemsincluding HVAC plumbing electrical lighting doors and windowsremain in optimal condition.
- Conduct general repairs in classrooms restrooms hallways and common areas addressing issues such as leaks broken fixtures and structural deficiencies.
- Troubleshoot and resolve system malfunctions efficiently and effectively.
- Execute scheduled preventive maintenance on HVAC plumbing and electrical systems to mitigate equipment failure.
- Inspect and service building infrastructure and equipment including seasonal maintenance tasks (e.g. filter replacements heating system checks).
- Accurately document all completed maintenance and repair work.
- Ensure all maintenance activities adhere to applicable safety standards building codes and institutional policies.
- Maintain and inspect safety systems including fire extinguishers emergency lighting alarms and evacuation pathways.
- Promptly report unsafe conditions or potential hazards to the Facilities Manager or other designated personnel.
- Support custodial staff during peak periods or special events by assisting with cleaning restroom upkeep and ensuring cleanliness of common areas.
- Assist in the setup and breakdown of furniture equipment and event spaces.
- Provide support during morning and afternoon carpool operations as needed.
- Assist in preparing school facilities for events including furniture arrangement equipment relocation and functional readiness.
- Provide real-time maintenance support during school events and activities to maintain safety and comfort.
- Assist in coordinating external vendors and contractors for specialized repairs or major maintenance projects.
- Provide technical guidance to ensure contractor work aligns with institutional standards and safety requirements.
- Monitor inventory levels of maintenance tools equipment and supplies.
- Ensure proper use storage and care of all maintenance-related tools and equipment.
- Reorder supplies as necessary to support continuous facility operations.
- Respond promptly to emergency situations such as water intrusion electrical outages HVAC failures or other urgent infrastructure concerns.
- Remain available for after-hours emergency maintenance duties when necessary.
- Operate effectively in a hands-on role with exposure to varying weather and physical demands.
Physical Demands: - Requires regular physical labor including lifting carrying bending climbing and operating tools and machinery.
- Must be capable of lifting a minimum of 50 lbs.
- Work may be conducted indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including gloves safety eyewear ear protection safety footwear and hard hats must be used as required.
Qualifications: - High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Technical certification or formal training in facility maintenance HVAC plumbing electrical systems or related discipline is preferred.
- Minimum of 23 years of relevant experience in building maintenance preferably within a K12 school or institutional setting.
- Comprehensive understanding of building systems and general maintenance practices.
- Proficiency in the use and maintenance of tools equipment and diagnostic instruments.
- Strong troubleshooting prioritization and independent problem-solving skills.
- Working knowledge of safety protocols and regulatory compliance.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues administrators and third-party contractors.
- Valid drivers license preferred.
