Position: BESS Engineer

Location: Melbourne Australia

Qualifications: / in Electrical Engineering ( preferred)

Experience: 10 years in design and engineering of Battery Energy Storage Systems.

As part of Tractebels continued growth in the Energy sector in Australia we are looking to mobilize a BESS Engineer to support our expanding operations in the country.

This role involves contributing to the design and engineering of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) including system integration equipment specification and coordination with multidisciplinary teams. The position also plays a key role in coordinating between the clients and Tractebels global engineering teams.

Strong communication skills and a solid understanding of client expectations are essential to ensure effective project delivery and stakeholder alignment.

Reporting to the Tractebel Australia Head and interacting with the Engineering Managers across Tractebel entities and supported by subject matter experts from our global offices the key responsibilities will include:

  • Acting as the primary technical point of contact for clients on BESS design & engineering.
  • Leading or supporting the development of technical studies including preparation of design documents calculations and reports.
  • Reviewing and validating project deliverables including BESS sizing electrical schematics integration plans and control system designs.
  • Participating in and leading technical meetings with clients and partners addressing technical and contractual matters in coordination with global teams as necessary.
  • Providing training in BESS system design and mentoring junior engineers.
  • Coordinating effectively between client requirements and Tractebels design teams identifying which topics can be handled locally and which require global team input.
  • Conducting occasional site visits for inspections and technical support.

In addition to core technical responsibilities the role will also involve contributing to the development of Tractebels activities in Australia including:

  • Supporting the Business Development team by participating in client meetings building relationships and promoting Tractebels expertise in BESS.

Assignment Scope & Workload Expectations:

Initially the workload is expected to be split evenly between technical activities and supporting business development/ project acquisition. As operations expand the role will transition to a predominantly technical focus.

The position will involve regular short-term travel for site visits or client meetings.

Key Skills:

  • Proactive detail-oriented and quality-focused with strong time management skills.
  • Able to work independently on moderately complex tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Technically curious and eager to engage with complex engineering challenges.
  • Experienced in liaising with engineers technical experts clients and stakeholders.
  • Strong communication interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Flexible and adaptable in a fast-paced dynamic environment.
  • Collaborative team player with sound judgment and initiative.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite.
  • Fluent in English with excellent written & verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to function in teams spread across different geographies.
  • Experience of sizing tool such as Homer Pro or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications & Certifications:

  • Familiarity with Australian standards (AS/NZS) and regulatory requirements.
