Job Description
The University of Nevada Reno is seeking an IT Technician2 to join the College of Engineering providing end-user support and systems administration for faculty staff students and administrative units. The successful candidate will deliver technical assistance for hardware software and network issues; install configure maintain and repair computer systems and related equipment; and support daily IT operations to ensure reliable access to campus computing resources.
Responsibilities also include troubleshooting technical problems managing and tracking help desk tickets via TeamDynamix and offering remote desktop support. Additionally the role assists with server and lab environment administration software license renewals and installations system updates imaging lab computers for each semester and coordinating with the IT manager on updates compliance and integration efforts.
The position also involves inventory managementtagging tracking and reporting on hardware and software assetsand collaborating with vendors and procurement staff for equipment orders and warranty tracking. Routine preventive maintenance system performance monitoring and lifecycle management of IT equipment ensure systems remain secure and operational.
This position plays a critical role in identifying and resolving technical issues or escalating them appropriately while maintaining open communication with the IT manager.
Required Qualifications
Graduation from high school or equivalent and three (3) years of experience utilizing the fundamentals of typical computer systems operating systems applications and peripherals one year of which must have included IT work experience in a user support role; OR
One (1) year of relevant experience as an IT Technician I in Nevada State service; OR
An equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
Preferred Qualifications
Candidates with experience in academic or educational environments are encouraged to apply bringing familiarity with Help Desk operations Remote Desktop Services ticket tracking/resolution and hardware/software licensing procedures.
Candidates proficient in clientserver systems and networking including imaging/reimaging lab computers and managing user accounts and permissions through Active Directory.
Candidates with skills in preventative maintenance and full lifecycle IT equipment management including system performance monitoring across multiple locations.
Schedule
The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm; this is subject to change based on organizational needs.
Compensation Grade
Grade 28 (Entry Step 01 $23.95/hr. Step 03 $25.99/hr.)
In classified service salary is in Grade and Step. The Step is determined based on the Nevada Administrative Code. Salary placement above a Step 01 at initial appointment is determined based on the recruitment the candidates qualifications internal equity and budgets. A request to accelerate salary must be approved by Human Resources and abide by the Nevada Administrative Code.
