PRIMARY FUNCTIONS
This is supervisory and responsible work in traffic and parking enforcement.
Work involves responsibility for supervision of Parking Enforcement Officers and participation in parking enforcement traffic control and the enforcement of traffic laws pertaining to pedestrian and vehicular traffic. Work is performed with considerable independence according to ordinances established policies and specific orders. Work is assigned reviewed and supervised by an administrative supervisor.
Note that the Parking Enforcement Field Supervisor may be required to attend occasional meetings after typical working hours.
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Inspects equipment appearance of subordinates before roll call.
- Patrols assigned areas to supervise Parking Enforcement Officers in the performance of their duties and provides instruction advice and assistance when necessary.
- Communicates assigned general and specific orders to subordinates and checks for compliance.
- Receives and answers complaints from the public regarding traffic parking or personnel.
- Maintains records related to assigned work and makes reports as required.
- Supervises and performs traffic control work as directed.
- Places tickets on illegally parked vehicles impounds vehicles and summons tow trucks.
- Performs related work as required.
EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Associates Degree in Criminal Justice Public Administration or a related field and 3 to 5 years experience in law enforcement parking enforcement or public administration including at least 1 year at a supervisory level or any combination of training and experience which provides the following knowledge abilities and skills:
KNOWLEDGE EXPERIENCE SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Knowledge of State of Connecticut motor vehicle laws regarding parked vehicles.
- Knowledge of the principles of first line supervision.
- Some knowledge of local ordinances regarding parked vehicles.
- Ability to investigate complaints assemble detailed information and prepare written reports.
- Ability to assess evidence and make decisions concerning enforcement violations.
- Ability to be tactful firm and courteous in all dealings with the public.
- Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with both subordinates and superiors.
- Ability to work on rotating shifts under all weather conditions.
- Ability to keep all matters confidential.
- Ability to issue and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to walk for an extended period of time.
- Ability to give directions in guiding pedestrian or vehicular traffic.
- Ability to instruct subordinates regarding parking laws ordinances and traffic control.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
- Possession of and ability to maintain a valid State of Connecticut drivers license.

SALARY BARGAINING UNIT & TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
This is a GeneralFund tested position.
This position is included in a collective bargaining agreement with Local 3144 American Federation of State County and Municipal Employees.

General Funded hires into this class are not covered by Social Security and will not pay Social Security taxes. They instead participate in the City Pension; the employee contribution rate is 10% of pay.
Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of a 90-day probationary period.
