Job Description

SCPS is seeking a Homebound Instructor to instruct students who are unable to attend school and ensures that homebound students benefit from an ongoing educational program. This position ensures continuity of education by delivering lessons in alignment with the students curriculum maintaining communication with classroom teachers and tracking academic progress. Instruction may take place in the home a public location or virtually based on student needs and division guidelines.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Provides instruction to homebound students outside the school setting in a facility appropriate to the students needs.
  • Develops a students Individualized Education Program (IEP) if applicable.
  • Supports case management of students assigned to all aspects of the special education process eligibility reevaluation IEP development functional behavioral assessments (FBAs) and behavior intervention plans (BIPs).
  • Provides the instructional program for the student including appropriate aids and materials.
  • Provides in cooperation with school personnel periodic reports on the students progress in a manner consistent with the reporting practices of the division.
  • Coordinates with division personnel in the successful return of the student to the regular education program or another special education program.
  • Meets the assigned student on an agreed upon schedule for the purpose of instruction.
  • Establishes a cooperative working relationship with the students family.
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of technology used within the division.
