Office of Juvenile Justice (OJJ) serves youth who have been adjudicated delinquent or Families in Need of Services (FINS). We are responsible for youth assigned to our care by the court system either for supervision or custody in residential placement or secure care. OJJ also provides services to youth under local court

Minimum Qualifications

Must have a Masters Degree or Higher in Educational Leadership or Administration or another area of Educational Studies;

Hold a Valid Teaching Certification in the area of Educational Leadership

Job Specification

Reports to the Director of Education (also to the Facility Director on the ground where his/her school is located); administers the school in accordance with Louisiana Department of Education and OJJ policies.

Uses leadership supervisory and administrative skills to maintain an effective learning climate and to promote the educational development of each student.

Plans and implements a program which creates an environment where teachers have the ability to design and implement a course(s) of study that enables students to learn and develop optimally.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:

  1. Has the physical stamina and emotional stability to work effectively under pressure and keep all aspects of the job under control.
  2. Presents a professional and well-groomed appearance at all times.
  3. Plan organize and oversee the work of school staff.
  4. Recruit select place mentor and retain diverse and highly effective teachers and staff and supervise them.
  5. Direct the operation of the school in accordance with policies established by the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE) the Louisiana Department of Education (LDE) and the Office of Juvenile Justice (OJJ).
  6. Ensure implementation of state and district curricula and assessments aligned with state standards including college and career readiness standards.
  7. Monitor multiple forms of student data to develop instructional and intervention decisions to maximize student achievement.
  8. Ensure that effective instruction maximizes growth of individual students and student groups supports equity and eliminates the achievement gap.
  9. Regularly consult the facility/campus-level committee about planning operation supervision and evaluation of campus education programs.
  10. Regularly conduct classroom walk-throughs to monitor progress of district-level initiatives and use findings to take appropriate actions.
  11. Provide clear expectations of staff performance and conduct rigorous evaluations of all staff using multiple data sources.
  12. Work with district-level and campus-level planning and decision-making committees to plan professional development activities.
  13. Coach and develop teachers and staff by giving individual feedback and aligned professional development opportunities.
  14. Implement collaborative structures and provide leadership opportunities for effective teachers and staff.
  15. Make recommendations to the Director of Education on termination suspension or nonrenewal of employees assigned to campus.
  16. Build a common vision for school improvement with staff.
  17. Manage school-wide schedules to ensure full implementation of 360 minutes of daily academic/vocational instruction.
  18. Establish reinforce and monitor clear expectations for adult staff and student conduct including social and emotional support.
  19. Create a safe and clean school environment that ensures the social emotional and physical well-being of staff and students.
  20. Ensure effective and quick resolution of conflicts.
  21. Apply a variety of intervention techniques to meet the behavioral and academic needs of individual students (Examples: PBIS and SEL practices).
  22. Foster collegiality and team building among staff members and encourage their active involvement in the decision-making process.
  23. Purposefully engage families and community members in meaningful student learning and achievement experiences.
  24. Communicate in a professional manner with students staff supervisors and other stakeholders.
  25. Accepts and makes use of constructive criticism to improve work performance.
  26. Refrains from undue sarcasm undue criticism inappropriate language and behavior and use of racial and/or ethnic slurs.
  27. Demonstrates personal and intellectual honesty.
  28. Attends school regularly and arrives punctually.
  29. Maintains confidentiality of school staff and students records and conversations.
  30. Notifies the Director of Education and Facility Director promptly in case of absence.
  31. Abides by school facility and agency policy at all times.
  32. Completes other duties as assigned by the Director of Education and Facility Director.

Position-Specific Details:

Work Location: This vacancy is located at the Acadiana Center for Youth in Bunkie Louisiana.
Terms of Employment:12 Month Employee (as set by the Office of Juvenile Justice)
Compensation: The salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience.

No Civil Service test scoreis required in order to be considered for this vacancy.
