OPPORTUNITY
The Staff Accountant will gain a thorough working knowledge of charter school funding in order to perform a variety of accounting work including preparing processing and monitoring activities relating to cash receipts accounts receivable transactions and internal auditing. They will prepare maintain review and reconcile accounts in accordance with GAAP for non-profit organizations. They will also advise train and provide responsible assistance to school site office staff and others. The Staff Accountant will assist in the development of improved tools processes and approaches to ensure that work is done in the most effective and efficient manner. This position is part of the Finance and Accounting team and reports to the Assistant Controller. This is a role serving as part of Green Dot Californias central office team primarily based in Los Angeles.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
> Prepare bank entries to support a cluster of schools including weekly deposits
> Prepare journal entries to record revenue and expense accruals
> Prepare invoices for accounts receivable and see through collection
> Guarantee successful/timely month-end close by meeting daily deadlines
> Perform variance analysis on financial statements investigating and explaining significant fluctuations to support transparent reporting
> Review transaction reports and financials and discuss with accounting team members and finance team
> Prepare schedules and organize documentation in preparation for audit visits
> Build relationships with school site and central office staff
> Contribute to the development of strong finance & accounting department that reflects operational best practices
> Ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards
> Special projects and other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
As an ideal candidate you:
> have a bachelors degree or higher from an accredited college or university in accounting business administration or a related field
> are a CPA or on a CPA-track (a plus)
> are experienced with Workday (preferred)
> are knowledgeable about the procedures and internal controls of GAAP
> have experience with non-profit audits including federal state and local compliance (preferred)
> are able to maintain positive relations with colleagues at all levels including central office staff and school-site administrators and staff
> are able to simultaneously manage multiple projects while maintaining a firm grasp of individual project details; meeting and/or exceeding project goals with the highest quality
> possess a high level of personal responsibility a growth mindset and an A work ethic
> are dependable humble have a sense of humor and a rock-solid commitment to Green Dots mission and the communities we serve
> will need to pass a TB test and background check at time of offer

> Work Hours: This position requires consistent attendance during scheduled hours as flexibility is limited by classroom or operational requirements.
> Breaks: Breaks are structured within the workday and must align with operational needs and student care requirements. Extended or frequent breaks may not be feasible in this setting.

COMPENSATION
The starting salary range for this role is $71000 - $78000. Please note that candidates who are new to their role or newly promoted can expect offers between the minimum and the mid-point of the range. To allow for salary progression over time offers at the top of the range are rare. Individual education and experience will be considered when issuing offers.
