The CDI RN Advisor serves as a clinical leader and subject matter expert in documentation integrity at the Lt. Col. Luke Weathers Jr. VA Medical Center in Memphis TN. This role is essential to the success of the facility s Clinical Documentation Integrity (CDI) program which supports accurate and complete documentation for inpatient and outpatient services.
As a Registered Nurse Advisor (RNA) you will apply the nursing process to analyze clinical data validate documentation and identify trends and opportunities for improvement. You will work closely with physicians CDI specialists coding staff and other healthcare professionals to ensure that documentation reflects the true complexity and severity of patient conditions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead CDI efforts by applying clinical expertise to review medical records for accuracy completeness and compliance.
- Serve as a liaison between clinical providers and CDI/coding teams to facilitate documentation clarification and education.
- Analyze documentation for clinical validation and communicate findings to relevant stakeholders.
- Develop and deliver educational programs for providers and staff on documentation standards coding implications and regulatory compliance.
- Support the creation and refinement of CDI workflows SOPs and performance metrics.
- Participate in reconciliation activities to align CDI documentation with final coding and MS-DRG assignments.
- Contribute to quality improvement initiatives including mortality reviews CMS core measures and provider engagement strategies.
- Ensure adherence to VHA HIM CDI Program Guide ACDIS Code of Ethics and all applicable VA policies and directives.
Work Environment:
- Onsite at a high-complexity VA Medical Center with extensive inpatient and outpatient services.
- Collaborative role within a multidisciplinary team reporting to the Chief of Health Information Management.

Requirements
- Education: Bachelor s degree required
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years of recent CDI experience in acute care hospital settings
- Licensure: Active unrestricted RN license in any U.S. state or territory with reciprocity in Tennessee
- Certifications: Must hold current certification from one or more of the following:
- Technical Skills: Skilled in clinical validation provider education and documentation improvement strategies
- Responsibilities:
- Serve as CDI Nursing Advisor for inpatient and outpatient services
