POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Patient Access Manager the Referral Coordinator performs their duties in a professional and organized manner requiring minimal supervision. The Referral Coordinator must maintain strict confidentiality in all matters pertaining to patients of Enloe Health.
The Patient Access Referral Coordinator is responsible for verifying and updating patient demographic data and verifying insurance eligibility. The Patient Referral Coordinator is responsible for collecting and processing departmental referrals external reports and data entry into the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) daily. The Patient Access Referral Coordinator is responsible ensuring all demographics insurance and documentation is received with the order to include chart notes necessary to obtain authorization. The Patient Access Referral Coordinator creates a friendly cooperative impression throughout all interactions with internal and external customers and works independently to prioritize and manage multiple functions in fast-paced environment. The Patient Access Referral Coordinator is responsible for establishing and maintaining an orderly work environment that supports the smooth operations for the Referring Provider.
EDUCATION / TRAINING / EXPERIENCE:
Minimum:
One year of experience in a medical front office or back-office setting as well clerical and data entry experience
Desired:
Knowledge of medical terminology
Referral experience with diagnostic procedures
SKILLS / KNOWLEDGE / ABILITIES:
Must demonstrate technical competence communication skills good organization planning skills creative problem solving and sensitivity for the patient and family in crisis. Demonstrates knowledge of specialty specific diagnoses. Able to communicate in a knowledgeable and articulate manner with clinic staff. Able to work with other department staff and all other hospital personnel in professional positive efficient and tactful manner. Able to deal with the public in a professional and tactful manner as it relates to questions or concerns regarding patients conditions status and care preferred. Ability to interface with all hospital departments so that the resources may be utilized to maximize patient care in an expedient fashion. Must be able to change priorities with the ever-changing patient status and subsequent workloads required. Must possess computer data entry skills. Must be able to fulfill the essential functions of the position.
