The College of Veterinary Medicines Department of Comparative Diagnostic and Population Medicine at the University of Florida (UF) invites applications for a full-time non-tenure-track position in Wildlife Disease Molecular Diagnostics at the level of Research Assistant Professor. The position entails 85% clinical effort which includes clinical diagnostic activities in the molecular diagnostic services of the Zoological Medicine Diagnostic laboratory together with didactic and clinical instruction 10% research effort which can involve self-directed and/or collaborative research enterprises and 5% service which can be met by professional departmental and university appointments. This is a time-limited position funded by the Zoo Med. Diagnostic Laboratory; continuation of this position is dependent on clinical diagnostic income in the laboratory.
Opportunities exist to explore or develop special interests in pathology that provide collaborations with other clinical specialties in the hospital. Salary is commensurate with experience.
Minimum requirements include a PhD in wildlife diseases or a related successful candidate must have experience in molecular diagnostic testing of nondomestic species with a focus on reptiles. Skills with test design and validation for molecular diagnostics of infectious diseases including both PCR-based and next generation sequencing as well as laboratory diagnostic sample database design and management are required.
