Producer
Location: Washington DC
HOW YOU WILL IMPACT THE BIG PICTURE:
The Pro-Life Weekly Producer will work with the President and COO of EWTN News on the editorial vision for the weekly newscast and lead the team to produce news consistent with Catholic teaching in collaboration with Senior and Executive producers on other shows as is necessary.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
- Produce discussion segments on national/international news from a Catholic perspective including writing/editing news scripts under tight deadlines; ensure editorial content meets EWTN News standards and practices.
- Supervise newsroom staff; serve as a mentor to develop performance and ensure the highest quality production possible.
- Communicate with the Host and the entire editorial team about segment topics and guests including extensive research requirements and potential discussion questions.
- Pitch original content stories that would make for engaging discussion or news segments based on current affairs; stay abreast of relevant breaking and developing news.
- Collaborate with pre- and post-production team members to produce editorially sound and visually appealing broadcasts that meet EWTN and Industry standards; select videos sound bites and still photos to be included in the broadcast.
- Serve as backup support to provide coverage for other shows as needed.
ABOUT YOU:
- You have a minimum of 3-5 years of prior experience in TV broadcast production/programming in a local or national newsroom environment.
- You have at least 1-2 years of experience in a management or team-lead role preferably in a newsroom environment.
- Practicing Catholic with demonstrated understanding of the Catholic Faith and how it relates to the programming goals of the network.
- Inquisitive nature excellent broadcast writing skills and meticulously detail oriented; demonstrated strong news judgment.
- Understanding of local national and international news as well as key life issues relevant to EWTNs Global Catholic audience and how the issues of the day impact the broadcasts overage.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills to work well with control room staff remote reporters and show guests; able to troubleshoot and resolve complex issues as they arise.
- Advanced skills utilizing broadcast software programs (e. iNews AP ENPS); fluent on a wide variety of social media platforms.
- Able to work a flexible schedule and travel including weekends/nights when required (minimal).
- Proactive self-starter able to work well independently with minimum supervision; strong team-player mentality to foster a collaborative environment for the team and across departments.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bilingual; proficiency in reading/writing/speaking in any language(s) in addition to English; strongly prefer Spanish and/or Italian.
- A Bachelors degree in Journalism Communications or related field is strongly preferred.
