Job Description

Overview

CHI St. Alexius Health Dickinson part of CommonSpirit Heath a national nonprofit health system based in Englewood Colorado. The faith-based system operates in 18 states and includes 103 hospitals. Additional services offered within the system are: long-term care assisted and residential living communities community health services organizations home health agencies and numerous outpatient facilities.

Responsibilities

As our OB Nurse at CHI St. Alexius Health Dickinson now part of CommonSpirit Health formed between Catholic Health Initiatives (CHI) and Dignity Health youll guide patients through the labor and childbirth process focusing on the safety of the mother and baby with kindness and compassion.

As a nurse in this department you will have varying roles and responsibilities. Working in Obstetrics - triaging patients or perform screening exams on walk-ins or you may guide patients through a routine induction and delivery. Youre busy monitoring the mothers dilation progress while also keeping close watch on the babys fetal heart rate. Youll be coaching mom as the baby is delivered and providing updates and support to the patients partner and loved ones.

To thrive in this role youll need to appreciate that routine is never routine. We have some wonderful days in this department and get to be with people through huge milestones in their lives. We also have some hard days and are with people as they grieve. You must be sensitive and understanding to different circumstances. Above all else you must remain calm in an emergency. A patients status can change quickly and its never good for the patient or family to see the nurse in a panic. Youre calm. Youre in control. Youre handling the situation.

  • Assesses antepartal intraprtal and postpartal patients for risk factors normal progress symptoms of problems and continuously monitor; detect changes in symptoms health or pain and take action as necessary; and quickly and accurately assess patient care needs
  • Responds to life saving situations based upon nursing standards policies procedures and protocol
  • Sets priorities in plan of care based on assessed needs and anticipates personnel supplies and equipment required to care for patients based on assessed needs
  • Works collaboratively with provider to provide exceptional care
  • Administers medications IV therapy and treatments in compliance with policies and procedures
  • Provides patient and family education

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience

  • Associates Degree in Nursing

Required Licensure and Certifications

  • Registered Nurse: North Dakota (RN:ND)
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support - CPR (BLS-CPR)
  • Certification for Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
    • within 12 months of start.
  • Certification for Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
    • within 12 months of start.
  • Stable Program (STBL)
    • within 12 months of start.
