MUSICAL CHOREOGRAPHER

2025-26

Due to wage and hour laws classified staff that accept a supplemental position will be paid at an hourly rate. The stipend applies to certified staff or Rule 10 only positions. Please see Additional Pay Information below.*

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High school diploma or equivalent required
  2. Job related experience is desired
  3. Specific skills required: ability to teach dance and movement skills ability to teach stage presence

Knowledge required: choreography appropriate for student musical productions rehearsal practices and performance practices

Abilities required: working as part of a team and with frequent interruptions; working non-standard hours and working within a musical ensemble

REPORTS TO: Building Principal

JOB GOAL:

The Musical Choreographer will plan dance routines and other appropriate movements for the musical production and will work with the participation students in the implementation of these routines and movements while providing support to each student in achieving a higher level of personal skill and an enhanced appreciation of dance.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Works with the Drama Director and evaluates the music to develop/design dance routines and other movements keeping with the choreographic needs of the production.
  2. Works closely with the Drama Director and the Musical Music Director and other personnel associated with the production in achieving the desired results.
  3. Communicates instructs and coaches students individually in small groups and in large ensembles as necessary to learn and perform the choreography of the musical production.
  4. Assists the Musical Music Director and Drama Director in supervising student activities for the purpose of ensuring efficient use of rehearsal time.
  5. Attends all auditions dance rehearsals and performances of the production as communicated by the Drama Director.

CRITICAL SKILLS:

Ability to speak clearly and audibly to various groups expressing ideas in a logical and forthright manner

Ability to quickly analyze a situation and provide prompt advice

Ability to respond to information requests in a courteous timely and helpful manner

Ability to work constructively and cooperatively with others

Ability to travel as needed

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

One year only supplemental contract - salary and work year to be established by the Board.

*ADDITIONAL PAY INFORMATION:

If the applicant hired is a current USD 497 certified staff member this position will have a stipend of $745 for the season paid over the teacher contract.

If the applicant hired is not a current USD 497 staff member this position will have a stipend of $745 for the season paid over the season. Please note: if classified employment with the district is subsequently accepted classified staff member pay (below) will apply for the remainder of the season.

If the applicant hired is a current USD 497 classified staff member they will be paid $7.25 per hour for the hours worked.

EVALUATION:

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Boards policy on Evaluation.

The tasks listed in this position description are subject to change at the discretion of the superintendent. The incumbent is expected to take on other duties as requested or assigned by his/her supervisor.
