Minimum Qualifications
- Masters degree in special education or related field.
- Three years of teaching experience.
- Personal characteristics conducive to working effectively with students teachers school personnel community groups and parents.
- Considerable knowledge of effective and varied teaching strategies classroom accommodations modifications and varied assessment techniques.
- Demonstrates understanding of the principles of team building.
- Exhibits a working knowledge of state and federal regulations and guidelines in special education.
- Demonstrates knowledge of applied behavioral analysis behavioral principles and strategies.
- Ability to conduct and interpret functional behavioral assessments in the development of effective behavior intervention plans.
- Ability to demonstrate knowledge of various methods of data collection and subsequent analysis and interpretation of data to drive appropriate instructional and behavioral interventions.
- Ability to demonstrate collaborative techniques with teachers.
- Ability to work effectively with people and demonstrate good human relations skills.
- Ability to impart knowledge to large group small groups and individuals.
- Ability to accurately observe report and record the learning progress of students.
- Ability to effectively observe student and teacher performance and provide feedback to improve teaching and learning.
Nature of Position
- An employee of this class is responsible for assisting general and special education teachers in providing classroom and behavior support for certain students who are academically and/or behaviorally challenged. This specialist works under the direction of the Site Coordinator of the Madison Alternative Career Center and the Department of Special Education Services:
- works with teachers to identify/develop individualized instructional/behavioral interventions;
- supports teachers in required documentation activities (student progress planning for and implementing behavior plans data collection etc.);
- works with the site coordinator teachers and special education staff to identify plan and implement professional development activities and determine follow-up as needed;
- assists teachers in the development of instructional materials accommodations modifications and assessments needed for students who have demonstrated severe behaviors;
- assists the transitional specialist with the development of personalized education plans for all students;
- attends all meetings of the Department of Special Education Services; and
- performs other duties as assigned by the site coordinator of the Madison Alternative Career Center the Senior Director of Alternative Options and the Senior Director of Special Education Services.
