    Job Summary:

    The Instructional Coach works in collaboration with teachers and school leaders to increase student engagement create a productive learning environment and improve student achievement in core subjects for all K-12 students. The Instructional Coach is a critical part in improving teaching and learning. The role of the Instructional Coach is to build teacher capacity and their understanding of instructional practices as related to curriculum and data driven instruction. The Instructional Coach is a learner who models continuous improvement lifelong learning and goes above and beyond to ensure student success.

    Principal Roles and Responsibilities

    Position duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

    • Trains teachers on best instructional teaching practices and philosophies.

    • Provides training support and mentoring to teachers in classroom management techniques resulting in the creation of a positive and productive learning environment for the students in the classroom.

    • Supports teachers in establishing classroom routines and procedures to provide structure and clarity to instruction.

    • Communicates monitors and reviews the implementation of instructional practices resulting in increased student performance.

    • Provides support in analyzing student assessment and discipline data to guide instruction.

    • Works collaboratively with teachers and school leaders to achieve district improvement plan goals for instruction

    • Meets expectations of regular reliable attendance

    Qualifications:

    • Minimum 5 years of classroom teaching experience

    • Current Teaching Certificate OR Current Administrator Certificate. All administrators or other person whose primary responsibility is administering instructional programs or as a chief business official shall meet the certification and continuing education requirements as described in MCL 380.1246; except as otherwise provided by law the Academy shall use certificated teachers according to state board rule

    • Proven impact on student learning and student management in an urban school setting

    • Ability to plan model coach and provide feedback to individual teachers and teams of teachers to improve teaching and learning for the lowest students who are at-risk of school failure

    • Experience implementing effective instructional practices designing engaging lessons and using data and formative assessments in the classroom

    • Criminal records clearance

    Education & Experience

    All administrators or other persons whose primary responsibility is administering instructional programs or as a chief business official shall meet the certification and continuing education requirements as described in MCL 380.1246. It is the employees responsibility to understand and fulfill any license and training obligations specific to position and/or for equipment that will be operated.

    Physical Demands & Work Environment

    In order to successfully perform the essential duties of this job the employee would ideally be able to meet the following physical demands:

    • Occasionally lift and/or move objects weighing up to 25 pounds.

    • Stand and walk frequently.

    • Withstand all demands presented by outside weather conditions at any time of the year.

    • Withstand a moderate noise level.
