An Ombudspersons primary duty is to help individuals and groups resolve conflicts often through mediation or recommendations aiming to ensure fairness and transparency across the organization. They are independent impartial and often provide confidential services to individuals who may have concerns or grievances. Ombuds may also provide information guidance and support to help individuals resolve issues independently.ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
Listens and understands issues while remaining neutral with respect to the facts.
Assists in reframing issues and developing and helping individuals evaluate options.
Guides or coaches individuals and groups to deal directly with other parties including the use of formal resolution resources of the organization.
Refers individuals to appropriate resolution resources.
Assists in surfacing issues to formal resolution channels.
Facilitates informal resolution processes for individuals and groups.
Identifies existing and new issues and opportunities for systemic change to policies and practices of the organization. Submits annual report on this matter to the Chief Academic Officer.
QUALIFICATIONS Qualifications are deemed required or preferred and represent what is needed to effectively perform job.
Bachelors Degree required Masters Degree preferred
Minimum 8 years of experience in advising counseling training alternate dispute resolution or similar experience
Membership in the International Ombuds Association or equivalent demonstration of adherence to the Ombuds Code of Ethics
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES May be representative but not all-inclusive of those knowledge skills and abilities commonly associated with the job.
Strong conflict resolution and mediation skills
Strong interpersonal skills including problem-solving skills
Excellent decision-making and strategic thinking skills
Demonstrated ability to deal with and analyze sensitive complex confidential matters and to respond in a thoughtful respectful and unbiased manner
Thorough knowledge of institutional processes
Excellent written and verbal communications

WORK PERIOD
This is a 9-month position with an annual work period of September 1 to May 31.
COMPENSATION
Compensation for this position will be between $33082.76 and $41337.93 annually commensurate with experience. This position is paid out over 9 months.
